In light of the new B18 coming out, why don't we make some miniature Star Wars movies using moments from moviebattles maps from the films.

Like having a 3 minute film of jedi vs droids on arena FA.

Rebels and gripping vader/imperials on Tantive

A carbonite room fight between Vader and Skywalker

That kind of thing. Anyone interested?

Well all it takes is someone like zappa to be on DSI at Arena FA, and there's a movie right there. :)

Guys I want to make some movies, but I need some help:

1. What software do you need to make JKA/MB2 movies.

2. Can anyone give me some basic instructions on how to make MB2 films.

I haven't made a JKA movie in yonks, so can somebody just refresh my memory?

omg you really need some help
1st- you don't need a program, go to your controls settings and edit the movie settings, and then simply downlod a coveter (search oon google) and comvert it into a video file!
2st- i'll be a actor, i live in pacific zone (West America, California pwns you)
3rd- the server it's on should be password coded, so no one will connect and ruin things
4th- the server shuold have cheats on and the players have godmode so they won't accidently kill each other :p
5th-anyhting else you need me for or contracting me, simple add me on xfire it's "bicjubjub"

i would like to be in so yeah i am in :D any way it sounds like fun and if there are any mando positsions i am your man and any sbd positions i am also your man :D

Lol, it isn't as simple as that.

Yoshi or zappa can you tell me:

a. what software do I need

b. point out a website (or tell me yourself over private message or in this thread) which has the basic instructions to making JKA movies. I saw a good tutorial on force Temple but it has its limitations.

PS: I downloaded Quake Video Maker, and that worked fine, but it isn't able to save the actual sounds of the game, only soundtracks that you put in. Fraps also has limitations, because it doesn't allow you to edit the video you make.

I use fraps to record http://www.fraps.com, costs 30 dollars or u can find a free version if you know where to look. Video editors such as Adobe, Windows Movie Maker or Vegas Video. Theres a few others out there but, cant think of there names. If you need any help, go over to my forums and JOM will help you.

Fraps is a game recorder...not a video editor. You need a program to edit like I said above.

Frpas lags, use In-game demo Function, well that's what Yosh told me to use.

Why don't do it like Lucas? Make it easy and cheap - use NPCs instead ^^

i always use Quake Video Marker.

Link: http://www.swift-tools.net/Quake/QVM/QVM-1.4.2-Setup.exe

But before you must do screenshots from JKA. Ask how? Easy. Before turn on the game, you must bind two keys: /bind z cl_avidemo 25 and /bind x cl_avidemo 0. You can use command: /cg_draw2d 0 - them you haven't got any icons from game.

cheers.

Fraps is much more easier then using the Cl_avidemo, I know that for a fact! I used that code for my very first movie The Jedi's Demise and it was a 2hr and 14 min film. After I got the pics into avi format then you had to add sounds and stuff. Using fraps is really a time saver. And the NPC thing in MB2, thats a good idea but you cant always get the live action from them. They are best for big battle shots and stand in's. Plus the real person when playing has a few more tricks then a computer.

Okay I've used quake to make a 40 second-to 1 minute dotf moviebattles piece. I have got a movie of various things like qui-gon vs maul, etc etc, and the soundtrack is basically some wav files of star wars soundbytes and a bit of music. Can anyone find me a wav file of some decent length star wars music? Also my 40 second movie is about 40 megabytes lol, so how can I make it shorter? (added compression?)

Also where can I find a free version of fraps? I've been using avidemo/demos/quake movie but I want to use another style as well.

PS: My first movie release will be ready about next week. It will be 40 secs or so, and a long download (sorry!), but it is only my first JKA movie in AGEEESSS! It will be a combined release by me and metaguardian.

Agreed.

Swampheart would have been awesome. Only one of the fourteen ? actors sent me their lines. Which is funny cause a lot of them have posted in this thread saying they'd be actors.

Also my 40 second movie is about 40 megabytes

you should compress it. DivX or XviD compressor.

divx link: http://dobreprogramy.pl/index.php?dz=2&t=36&id=194 click on "pobierz wersję bezpłatną" and save on your PC

xvid link: http://dobreprogramy.pl/index.php?dz=2&t=36&id=193 click on "pobierz wersję bezpłatną" and save on your PC

A friend (ObiWanKenody) asked me a similar question the other day about recording with cl_avidemo.

Go right to the bottom if you want to know about Fraps.

Before you make a video, you have to decide on many things. Do you want simplicity? Do you want a professional looking video regardless of time?

Well, if you have got a lot of time, then you should use the cl_avidemo feature. 99% of all pro Q3 video makers use it (Own-Age.com) because it provides a lag free experience (and for Q3 users only it enables them to record a demo in a demo and use wicked camera angles, unfortunately not available for JK3...)

You have to record a demo for each clip you want to make. Make sure you set the scene up and tell the actors to go on your command, so you can make sure you are going to be recording what you want. Take multiple recordings if you need different camera angles.

cl_avidemo also allows you to record in any resolution at any frame rate, which is how I am able to make smooth looking HD videos (the graphics will depend on your card).

Here is a short tutorial below I made for the guy;

(You will need to learn Vegas if you're going the CL route)

You need to record your demo, then exit to the main menu.

Set the resolution you want to record in.

Then bring down the console and type /cl_avidemo 30

Now type /demo

eg, /demo mustafarduel

providing you still have the map and models in your base folder, it will
load the demo, and you will see what may look like severe lag to you, but it
is actually rendering each frame to a jpeg, depending on how long the demo
is, it could take quite a while.

This will leave a folder called 'screenshots' in your base. Rename that
folder to what you want, so that the next time you render a different demo,
it renders to a new folder.

In Vegas, navigate to the folder you just renamed, and click on the first
image. This will enable a checkbox underneath (in the import window) which
should say 'import as image sequence' or something similar.

Make sure the box is checked, and click open.

It has now packed all of the frames into one file (like a video), which you can now import into the timeline. There is no sound however, which leaves you with two options.

Rip sounds from the movies or video games (I.E Assets0.pk3/Sounds)

Record the demo using fraps, import the fraps video file and strip off the
video on the timeline so you are left with the sound and synchronize it.

Rendering:

If you do take the time to use CL, don't waste your effort by using a crappy codec. I do not reccommend Xvid or Divx. WMV is a good codec that is playable on most PC's, it has good compatibility and works fine if you set it a decent bit rate. 2mbps for 640xXXX, 4mbps for 800xXXX and 6mbps for up to 1280x1024.

If you want quality over file size (which is what I do) I reccommend using a Quicktime codec, or use the 3ivx codec. For Quicktime, Sorenson 3 practically = WMV, it's compaitibilty is with Quicktime 3 + higher I think. H.264 has even better quality and lower file size (providing you set it at the right bit rate), this is the codec that I use and is only compatible with two programs that I know of, Quicktime 7 and VLC player.

Fraps

With Fraps, well, this is where you will save a lot of time, but in return you will be sacrificing video quality, resolution and most importantly frame rate.

However, with fraps it records the sound with the video, so you can just import that into the editor of your choice, cut the clips and add music. Very nifty, and it is what I reccommend for newbies or people who have less time on their hands.

With the Fraps program, just press F9 (I think) to record. Remember it only records up to 1152x864 (or 86something). So if you have Fraps recording at full res, make sure you don't record over that resolution (many people play @ 1280x1024). If you do record at, say, 1280x1024, it will half the res immediately, so the output file would be 640x480.
