The official IRC channel for MBII can be found on quakenet, under the name #Movie_Battles. (Catchy, isn't it? :D )

To get into the channel you need an IRC-client. The most common is mIRC, which can be found at http://www.mirc.com. X-chat (http://www.xchat.org) is also good, but it is no longer freeware, and can only be used by paying customers nowadays. There are several multi-protocol clients, such as Miranda (http://www.miranda-im.org) and Trillian (http://www.trillian.cc/downloads)

ATTENTION!
This sunday (12/9-04) RenegadeOfPhunk is going to answer your questions about the mod in the channel. If he resists a question, we will note it and make an angry letter. ;) The Q/A session is going to be sometime in the evening, so be there around 18.00 GMT. (And of course, no one stops you from staying afterwards. :D )

I just bring this little up... I think many of "new members" doesn't know there is an irc-channel. Just want little more activity to #Movie_Battles :)

Edit: I see that many of guys playing MB II didn't know how to get IRC -software (I asked in servers), so example mIRC (http://www.mirc.com) is one software. Feel free to find other softwares with google.

I use X-Chat. It has a few bugs, but nothing you can't live with. The reason I use it is because it is VERY easy to use. No unneccesary functions, all basic. You can opt to have some advanced functions, but it works fine without them. Perfect for beginners. I remember when I opened mIRC the first time and thought "which f****ing button do I press?". X-Chat has none of this.

I don't know the adress offhand, but google is your friend, there is only so many IRC clients called X-Chat you know. :P

I'm using a multi-protocol client that supports ICQ, AIM, MSN, Jabber, Yahoo, Gadu-Gadu, Tlen, Netsend, IRC, and a lot more (based on plugins). It is full customizable, uses little system memory (compared to seperate clients), is free and supports Windows NT4, 95, 98, Me, 2000, XP & 2003.

The number of people in the channel is at an all-time low, so we are starting an advertising campaign. Our wish is that the MB team comes to the channel at certain dates and give interviews, answer questions and such. (And of course we would be honoured if they idle there anyway :P)

So what do you say? I am asking the MB team now. Would you agree to such a thing?

i use Colloquy ( http://www.colloquy.info/ ). it's an OSX thing, and it's nice. i'd suggest it to any OSX-er wanting an IRC client.

i'm in the room right now, only 6 people and noone is talking... yeah.

So, the Q/A session is over, and I must call it a success. Ren has offered to repeat it on a weekly basis, so everyoen who missed it gets a new chance next Sunday. Here follows a brief summary of some new information never heard before:

Quite a lot of info regarding maps was given about maps. Here is a summary:
* 2 new maps - Hoth and Courouscant - will POSSIBLY be released together with Kamino. Courouscant will be an assassination/VIP-mission. The objectives of Hoth are unclear, but it will be a very open map, and it WILL have AT-ST:s. ;)

* A final release of Tantive IV is going to be made. This new version will have a second level, which gives for more multidimensional excitement.

* NCP:s are being considered for the maps, but it's mainly a technical issue, they slow down the game.

New player classes is going to appear, although which ones are not decided. The following are being considered:
Gungans
Geonosians
Bounty Hunters

Gungans will most certainly be droid killers of some sort. Geonosians will have that sonic rifle and limited flying ability.

Keshire's new animations (which you probably have seen samples of) is going to be incorporated into the mod soon. I can't wait!

A lot of excitement surrounded RenegadeOfPhunk's explanation of how the fully authentic mode is going to work. I will luse his own words:

21:36:32 <RenegadeOfPhunk> The imperial team will have the option of being a stormtrooper or Vader

21:37:02 <RenegadeOfPhunk> but if you select Vader, and Vader has already been selected by another player, you will be placed in a que
21:37:25 <RenegadeOfPhunk> the length of the que depends on how many people want to play as Vader
21:37:57 <RenegadeOfPhunk> The current player who is controlling Vader will be moved off once he:
21:37:58 <RenegadeOfPhunk> a. Dies
21:38:04 <RenegadeOfPhunk> or b. Hits a round limit
21:38:14 <RenegadeOfPhunk> i.e. you can only be Vader so long..

Another nifty detail is revealed...

I think the usual way of doing that is seding the questions to one of the channel's moderators, then the moderators say them in the main channel to keep things organized.

I see it less as a "release info" thing and more as a "find out important stuff directly from the source" thing. If you see what I mean. :)

It doesn't have to be new info, the point is to let people ask about htings they don't know.

LOL its a map that i made from the ground up, so unless I said it was going to have at-st's in it - well it wont LOL (unless its something that The Boss particualy asks me to include, but i dont think he will as he knows I had a clear plan on what i wanted to do with this map from the start).

- I am not planning on puting any vehicles in the map only a scripted at-at crash sequence that Dacks will be adding!

since the first beta test though I have made some changes, effecting balance more than anything... :D :D :D

Even though I'm not on the team, I can guarantee that no gungans will apppear on Hoth... yet! During the Q/A session, it was actually mentioned that gungans was being considered for the mod.

I agree that Geonosians are more interesting than Gungans. But the energy shield could be a lot of fun. Besides, the "odd waterbomb thingies" are gungan energy balls. Just so you know. :P

I think Imperial Royal Guards would be a kick ass class. Thouhg they're not in any battles... If a death star map was ever made they could be used.

About the vechicles. Though it would be insteresting to see how a mb battle would play out with them.. they're are many flays 2 it. such as soldiers could use 3 at-sts while any normal class could only use 1. I duno if this is possible, but if you could have certain classes spawn in certin areas, that would be cool. Like if there was a pilot class that would spawn near the vehicles.

btw if you even consider using AT-ST's in hoth make sure u include AT-AT's
but then you would have to counter them with snow speaders. hmmm. While it would make for a fun map it might be better suited for for a base jk3 siege map. o whell

no vehicles in MB2 unless they act as a player class (like the deka), but I don't think there are any other possible classes that can be put there... I think Mon Calamari and Ithorian skins should be added to rebel soldier (maybe reskin them to a rebel uniform). Also, I'd like to see an Endor map :cool:

Hehe... it really could be more active. I'm sure community wants to chat somewhere :) And there you can decide the server you all join in, decide times etc. It's a handy and nice place... join there. And don't just pop up. I admit it's kind of quiet now but not my fault ;)

cause after 3 months and 5 programs i finally got IRC working.

I want that too, but the team has been very silent lately. ("Lately", as in "the period before I stopped visiting the forums regularly"). When I asked them when we are going to see that new map, they just said "sometime". It was due one week after the release of B16, so my hopes are not very high.

I blame MI5 sending Bond in to find out their secrets.
I mean even their christmas (ScroogeCOUGH) pictures failed to excite me.
They needed pictures more like the B15 mass of pictures showing shiny arcs with clones CsOpUaGmH shooting and droid huddle groups.

I blame paranoida, they're probably gaining more interest for people who want the ideas for their own purposes, and not legally either... *coughs loudly idea stealers*

It's not that rusty, it's what happened the day b16 was supposed to be released and wasn't, the speculation about those two new classes, and the mess which the forums became those first days of b16, filled with complaints in the "OMG B16 SUXX0RZ!!!!1111ONE" style.

I think they don't want to have to suffer all that again, so they won't give specifics about b17.

IIR b15 disabled dekas killing people by rolling over them, and made secondary dets do less damage than primary (quickthrow for heros only is b16 i think), and since almost everybody had been asking for that there weren't as many problems.

I don't remember, i guess somebody complained, if there's something which is always there in modding is people complaining, be it for not have fixed the bug which (for them) is priority n 1, for not adding whatever they wanted, or for nerfing their favourite class...

still dont like the uptight rules at the MB irc chat, its juss BS there arent alot of peeps in there so its hard to annoy but still u can get kicked easy by Bamse.

Huh? I hardly ever kick people. Sometimes, if people get very "noisy" maybe, and I have never yet banned anyone. A kick is just a reminder that you did something wrong, nothing stops you from coming back right away. As a matter of fact, so many people have "auto rejoin on kick" activated, that I sort of assume people will materialize again within seconds.

IRC - Easy tutorial

1) Getting a client
I've uploaded a client to my server, http://norsumanageri.urli.net/XChat.exe
Download and install it.

2) Getting on the server
Start the client, set the nicknames and usernames and other little configs, connect to Quakenet.

3) Using it there
Start with typing /join #Movie_Battles
It will bring you to MB's official community channel.

4) X-Chat
Down is the channel list, it displays the channels you're on. You can switch between channels youre on by clicking their names. On the right theres list of users on the channel. Just under the menu bar theres the topic box. Under it the main chat window. Under it the white text box where you type your messages and send them by pressing enter.

Its not that hard.

Once you connect to quakenet a window should open, type "/join #Movie_Battles" (w/o the quotation marks) there and you should be in the channel.

I find that if you connect to a US server and connect to the movie battles channels a lot of the time they will appear empty (yet must be registered since the topic is still there). I just connect to the UK servers (http://staff.quakenet.org/servers.phtml) and save myself the potential trouble.

Log above was said between when you were kicked, banned, unbanned, and rejoined, just before what you've posted. Apparently you're a jackass who's probably got a real good idea why he was banned, given you're in Ace's clan. :D
Unbanned anyhow. If they're not causing problems in the IRC channel bans from it generally aren't warranted.

As some of you know, ages ago I made a bot called YzBot. It's not always on, but I'll try to get him on more in the future.

Anyway, the bots job, purpose and meaning of existence is to query MB2 servers and check the current map, game mode and number of players.

If it's running you can find the bot in the channels #Movie_Battles and #yzbot. If you want to do many queries or who requests please consider the latter to keep the spam to a minimum.

Usage:
!q [ip:port]
This will connect to that IP:Port and get the basic info.
or
!q who [ip:port]
This will check that server and reply with a list of players.

[ip:port] can also be replaced by an alias. It takes those aliases from an aliaslist only I can currently edit. If you want a server added ask me on IRC.

So to query the CMP server you could type:
!q cmp

To have the current aliaslist PMed to you (irc not forum pm), type:
!q aliaslist
you dont have to type the entire alias, so !q pande is the same as !q pandemonium.

You can also search for a player on the servers in the aliaslist, to to this use:
!q finda [part of playername]

The reason why this doesn't work on all servers is that the only way to figure out if a server is an MBII server or not is to query it. That takes time, so with the rather huge amount of jka servers on the master server, that would take too long. It used to be able to do this, but it was prone to crashes and took ages. Therefore it was removed.

The bot can do more, but this is the all you really need to know. :)
