hmm i was wondering
even tho it is been said that the characters where balanced
how does it come that 80% of the ppl in the server use a jedi/dark jedi ?
i mean c'mon , in Jabba's palace was only 1 Jedi (Luke)
on the Tantive IV there was only 1 sith (Darth Vader)
and in Bespin Luke & Vader

so it might be an idea to restrict the Jedi chars , maybe just 1 or 2 per team
(or disable pull/push ;P )
i mean when u go as a Mandalorian or a wookie or any other non force sensitive character , u sometimes get bounced like a flipper-ball
so what happens u take also a jedi/dark jedi

i just think this isnt right

for the mod itself GREAT JOB !

okay and i dont need any comment like "when u want to gun play CS"
im a Star Wars fan and i love to play Star Wars games , but not all Star Wars is Jedi+sabers

anyway just wanted to drop my $0.02 here

At the moment you see the game played in movie battles mode which is a bit like a TFFA as we are still in beta..... I think im right in saying that when we are finished/have a demo or at some point in MB2 evolution there may be an authentic mode as well where the characters involved will be forced to be the ones in the films i.e. if playing cloud city in authentic there will be 1 vader, 1 luke, 1 leia etc any other ppl playing will be stormtroopers or bespin cops.....

Hope this anwsers you question.... and if i am wrong about this as i can be im sure someone will point it out :)

Just to confirm that Roadkill is right - we are indeed planning an authenic mode.

In fact, the final game will actually have 3 modes:

* Open
the same as now - all supported classes and models avaliable on all maps

* Semi-authentic
Each map can specify a list of supported classes and also specify a time period -which will limit the avaliable models.
e.g. Tantive - Soldiers & Jedi's only - Original Trilogy time period. (NOTE that this is an example, I'm not saying this is how we will set Tantive when it comes to it!)

* Authentic
This will be much more restrictive, but also allow an accurate 'representation' of the particular movie scene (or other SW setting - not all maps nessesarily need to represent a particular scene from a Movie).

To re-iterate the example Roadkill just mentioned, Cloud City in Authentic mode would limit the players to choosing from:

Villans side:
1 Vader (Dark Jedi)
1 Boba Fett (Mand)
...and the rest stormtroopers (soldiers)

Heroes side:
1 Luke (Light Jedi)
1 Leia (Hero[ine])
1 Lando (Hero)
1 Chewwie (Wookiee)
...and the rest bespin guards (soldiers)

So if someone has already joined earlier and taken the 'Chewwie' slot, the Chewwie player will not be avaliable to you, and you will have to pick a different class.
Since this is a very restrictive game type, I dont' see it being very popular on public servers, but for private games, perhaps within or between clans - and for those looking for true movie realism, this will be a great game mode.

Villans - currently - just cover any 'evil' character which isn't set apart by any special or extra-ordinary features or abilities -except their skill in a blaster fight.

One example is Greedo. He is a baddie, but he didn't (as far as I'm aware) carry any really unique equipment or have any astounding, unique abilities (jetpack, rocket, force-sensitivity, saber etc) .
He simply had access to a blaster, had some skill with it and - more importantly - was more than willing to use it!
..this is what the villan class represents. In a similar (but opposing) way to the Hero, this class represent what you might call your 'standard' baddie.

We are planning a more specific 'Bounty Hunter' class for the full game, where one of the main features will be access to many 'exotic' types of weaponry and equipment - but this will be a seperate class to the villan.

but ren, about the cloud city map i got one sugestion about the vader char just to get more realistic:

.Darth Vader has a lot of HP - vader should be pratically invincible! after all he is the worst nasty canasta of the SW universe. i sugest 200 hp AND armor.

.Vader can stop any blaster shot - thats right. vader is not dependent of any force defense lvl to stop blaster shot.

.but wait! vader would also have one disvantage - Vader cant RUN like other characthers. he can only walk. vader NEVER runs in the movies and i dont think that armor helps him walk faster :p. so vader can only walk but only a bit faster (althoug vader never runs in the movies, he always walks in quick steps).

dont take me wrong. i hate siths, but i think its fair to overpower vader in the authentic mode. after all he is on of the most powerfull sith ever existed.

rusty has a good point..what your suggesting is that the battles play out exactly like the scenes which would mean, for example tantive, imperials would win every time

nope. im just telling that vader should be superior only because he was superior in the movies. nothing more. im sure that theire will be plenty off maps in wich vader doesnt get in.

and in tantive, rebels kinda win because the droids escape safely of the ship although the ship has been taken.

Well technically in that case no one should be allowed to use lightening, since Palpatine was the only one who could use it, being apparently a very advanced technique. (On a side note: You should have a palpatine class who has overpowered lightning but nothing else). Vader was the only one who used grip, and luke the only one who used jump and such. Anyway, here are a few suggestions to build on what was previously posted.

Vader: Low move speed, can still run but slowly and awkardly. Grip lv 2, high saber attack and defense, immune to regular blaster shots (can be killed by charged shots). High health.

Luke: High move speed, force speed and jump, focus on agility. Lv 2 Heal, lv 2 dodge (if that's possible) and medium saber attack/defence. Medium Health.

Imp troopers get advanced weapons, more ammo, and generally better technology, but rebels recieve reinforcements (representing determination) and heroes.

There are my humble ideas, feel free to laugh them off ;)

I actually have all of this kind of stuff (Abilities and powers individually tuned to specific characters on individual maps - just as you've described) in mind for the 'Fully authentic' mode that is plannned for B17.

...B16 will only have Open and Semi-Authentic modes. So you will have to make do with them until I can get to work on Fully Authentic mode.
..and no, I'm not gonna give you any time estimates. I'll just say ... in the future. (But hopefully not too distant future...! ;) )

...but when I get round to implementing it, I think Fully Authentic mode is gonna be exactly what your looking for :)

Ideas:

Being this, seeing as the heroes (main characters, jedi and mercs alike) may be totally outnumbered in Authentic mode, they should possibly be made more powerful than they are by default. This is for the following reason: When a hero dies in the game, the player has lost his turn to be that hero. The hero classes would be operated in turns, ie. Luke is killed, next one in line will respawn as Luke after he dies next and so on. It's more fair this way I believe.

The reason for them needing to be stronger than default then is because EVERYONE will want to kill the heroes so they can get their turn faster. It would also lead to more epic battles between heroes and villains.
