View Full Version : Hit Hit... No Die!
Well I had to check if my lightsaber's functional more than once today... I've had around 4(maybe more) cases when my lightsaber goes RIGHT THRU another player(sometimes even twice!) and nothing happens! Not even an "ouch" or a "fssssss" sound :( . Hey... I know, that Jedi should only defend themselves, but this is rediculous. :) Something wrong with the hit boxes?
Raven's much vaunted ghoul has always been less than dependable.
There's also the usual misleading depth perception with the saber, with it being totally 2d and all... and of course a bit of lag can cause that too.
the lag surrouns us all :p

I realy don't see why it is so appauling tbh, the Maths to do it isn't all that hard - intersection between a bounding cylinder(the player), and the volume swept by a line(the saber) from 1 game frame to the next.
hey Ren, is rewriting the saber collision detection code possible? =)

Very much so. I'd think razor has done the best attempt though.

i just don't like it how razoraces mirroring attacks always end up in someones back.
especially blue stance gets a lot of back attacks for free because of the mirrored moves, no thanks to the players themselves. so you end up dying many times even though you seemingly blocked from the exact right direction. or killing someone by luck in the middle of an epic saber combat.

Well, for one, you can only block with your face to the opponent. Even if you're facing him a little sideways and he slashes you, you're dead. Which makes saber dueling a really big game of trying to stay in front of your opponent.
also a thing with the saber killing someine in a slice from beyond the sabers range. Most times, I've seen it kill a running gunner from beyond its reach when the down swing was completing

my saber has been having problems lately, it seems that it just goes thro some classes and then they kill me lol.
These classes being clones and mands, so i was wondering if there boxes were having problems?
With 100 health and 80/100 shields they might survive a swing (not always).

I've noticed that the saber hit registering is screwed over on the wireplay server compared to the MB server where pretty much anything hits.
Is there a specific reason to this?.
Different setups and rates can make things seem different - wireplay may have a lower max rate setting, so less data will be being sent to you and vice versa, causing a few more errors than on the main MB server.
Wireplay is more laggy for some people (me at least), so that might be a factor.
