Hey, Subaru here.
In my time on the MBII team as a trial coder, most of what I've done has been bugfixing and the like. But now...I present to you...a new visual feature!
The Z-6 rotary blaster cannon (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Z-6_rotary_blaster_cannon) model is now avaliable if you purchase Clone Rifle 3 with no blobs. It was modeled and textured by =Someone=, and "animated" and put ingame by me. Frost did the player animation.

For any aspiring modeler or those who are just wondering, it works like this:
For first person:
You need to split the gun model up into 3 parts. You need a _hand model that holds all the important tags and takes care of the positioning of everything, a _barrel model for the animated part and the normal gun .md3 for the rest.
For third person:
For the animation to work in world view, the gun needs to be compiled like a vehicle. With a static bone for the static parts and bone_barrel for the animation and everything weighted to it accordingly.

Nah, I think I like the other clone rifle better for blobs. This should be for those that want clone rifle 3 w/o blobs, because it would just look weird, even with an attachment on the bottom or top of it. :s

What's that noise at 0:45? Lol...turn the volume up and you can hear it. Sounds kinda like yoshi from SSB 1. Anyway, I would like a blob attachment. You already give up your extra life to get this thing, why not make it worthwhile?
Zomg, there's a deceleration effect when you stop shooting? Very sexy.

of course id rather just have the cannon just be a clone rifle 3 w/o blob
Or lets just make it look like the Death Star! Even though, I admit it would be pretty awesome.

Personally, I tend more to lean towards making it a standalone weapon rather than a levelled model replacement for the Clone Rifle, as a solution to the blob problem. Yet, what would you have it do? Shoot even faster? Going that route kinda invites lag issues and crashes, which can become apparent on large servers doing Clone Rifle 3 spam already...
IMO, an ability that removed the need to reload would be pretty sweet. ;) 15-20 points or so.

imo it seems to be cr 3 no matter how you cut it, so why not make the stand alone gun interesting. For instance lets just say that you made it an emp gun that drained energy as you shot. so lets say it drained a small amount of ammo per shot as well as doing a decent amount of dmg. Now that would make for a cool and unique gun, that would have extra effect on droids. Perhaps you could have a slowing effect on either the sbd / deka or a slowing effect on their rate of fire.
How about giving it automatic bounce shot. Every shot. It bounces - Cr3:)
Or better yet, the more shots that hit you the higher probability your going to catch on fire!
Or an alternative to blob. Instead it shoots out an orb that explodes once it hits something. But not your typical explosion mind you. This explosion, think unblockeable shotgun blast in a 360 arc!
Or...A melee attack move called Impale! My god, genius!
Vortex, the rotation of the gun causes a vortex that spins anyone caught in its path around and around!

How about give the clone extra armour but reduce movement speed.
Make it have a larger shot spread when standing still, with rate of fire a bit slower then CR3 & use no ammo. At first it winds up(1000 - 2000 miliseconds) then starts firing until an overheat(4000 miliseconds).
You can really catch these guys when they overheat.

Clone Rifle 3 is fine. You can even make it shoot blobs, it has a godamn big cannon hole in the middle of the barrels. Make it able to shoot blobs from there...

Yeah, Z-6 model for CR3, no matter what, there's no reason to penalize ppl if they want this awesome model, and blobs belong to any clonebuild imo.
Either make a slight glow for every barrel when a blob is shot or do as Frost said and make it shoot out of the middle.
An while you're at it, replace CR1 with the DC 15S (?) model from Jedi Tempel FA if it's not too much to ask.
How about have the clone rifle 3 shoot TDs instead of lasers?
while we are at it give q3 speed.

That's more an issue of how weapon overrides work. Overriding the player animations used for a WP_ROCKET_LAUNCHER isn't possible (yet?).

"Compiled like a vehicle" refers only to the process of making it. The game still treats it as a normal gun. You can't shoot it to make it explode or something like that.

Yeah, definitely "yet" if there's a need for it. Player animations per-weapon are about the same difficulty to change as the weapons themselves, as something customizable in FA, like anything else already done there.

Well, simple fixed animations wouldn't be too hard. Or animatons that didn't matter in terms of the movement of the weapon. eg: The chain on a chainsaw. Something complex like a whip though, basically the hit detection would depend on how the whip was curling around things and so forth, which would react differently based on where the whip was at the time of the impact, etc... It's not an insurmountable problem in and of itself, but as soon as you throw lag into the mix, you're going to get some very strange behavior on the physics of such a weapon. It's a lot more complex than a lightsaber and you already have some idea of how difficult getting the hit detection right is on that.

Yes, I believe so. Though the more complicated it is, the more of a pain in the arse it will be to animate, and the less likely I will be to do it. :) But if you have an idea of something that could be improved visually with a simple animation, send me a PM and I'll see what I can do. Not making any promises that it will be done though. :p
