View Full Version : Connection interrupted at beginning of game

I dunno if it's a bug or not or just a problem with servers but, whenever there is an almost full server and I enter the game, I get connection interrupted right at the start of getting into the game. I quit after that and then enter again, and magically no problem occurs. This problem always seems to happen when the server is near full.

I also find it will always wait to let me in at the start of the round - if this could be removed it might stop the problem. Unfort i'm sure thats there for a reason too.

yup, i've had this many times before also.

I wonder - has this happened to you at all servers or specifically e.g. at the Wireplay server?

Actually i think it happens to me more on the original servers. Unfort i'm unable to play cause of exams so i can't say its happened recently.

This has happened to me quite often, but you should just type /recon in the console to reconnect to the server.

You may be able to 'just reconnect' but the point is it shouldn't happen.

Yep, it happens to be on all servers.

I have this same bug and It's maybe the biggest joining bug I have. And rejoining one time doesn't always help... I have to join even 3 times again (normally I rejoin about 2-3 times, because of other joining bugs).

You can see other peoples text for maybe 10 rows from the console by the way... I've also noticed that many times when this connection interrupted -bug comes, round is starting (3,2,1). Usually when connection is interrupted, it takes me to that joining window first (choose class etc.) after loading. Connection isn't (almost?) never interrupted, if it takes me straight to spectator after loading. Any intelligent reason for this? And no, I do not have any problem with my connection, it works just fine with normal JA.

Edit: And I'm pretty sure this happens with all servers.

It's not a bug, it's the server loading. Everyone gets it, it is engine specific to the siege game type, and unless am very muhc mistaken the SDK didnt include that part of the source so your stuck with it

Then how may you explain the fact that this only occurs when there is a full, or almost full server?

Bob42

This happens to me sometimes on Tantive 4, and always on Jabba. I have never been able to join a Jabba game, even when there was only 2 other people on the server.
My personal thought is that it is related to my computer, since my lagometer always shows a huge CPU lag spike, then the server lag, then connection interrupted.
When I look at task manager, Jamp.exe is using 99% cpu and nearly a gig of ram! The only problem is that i don't have a gig of ram, so it uses insane amounts of swap file. :( It usually says that the virtual memory is too low.
I have a P4 1.6ghz and 256mb ram. It just seems like the game is putting too much load on the ram.
I hope some of this information helps to figure out what is causing this.

it doesnt, it happens if there are 2 people on, it happens if there are 2000 people on, the more people, the more noticable because the server is laoding more, sheesh, you'd think that was kinda obvious...

Aezeroth
20-06-2004, 21:17
So you mean that this happens to all servers when they are reloading?

Chrono
21-06-2004, 18:09
It happens to me if theres many players on the server.

I don't seem to get any connection problems apart from when the server crashes I have a adsl 512MB FX53 1GB system loads the levels pretty quick :)

oh yeah, I have it a lot, but I always reconnect then, and then it's over.

i also had the damn problem. perhaps it has to do with something about the lag....

=tom=
29-07-2004, 04:09
got that also then i just do the /recon
as far as i know this happened only on almost full servers
so maybe you and another guy connecting for the last spot on the same time ?

Lately, it's been happening with 10/20 ppl or more...

I'm pretty sure I know the reason of this problem.

If you watch people connecting and failing, the message isn't "<Name> timed out", it's "<Name> Server command overflow".

This is caused by the client recieving too much information as they load the map, so it all bursts out at once when they join, causing them to be kicked.

If you type "/developer 1" in the console while you're playing, you can see all of the messages that are being sent to you at the top of the screen. These include skin messages, cvar settings, and a LOT of "Invalid effect" messages.

Here is an example:

Cvar_Set2: r_autolodscalevalue -1.750000
Can't find models/players/chiss/model_default.surf
Can't find models/players/chiss/animevents.cfg
serverCommand: 7511 : cs 6 "0"

serverCommand: 7512 : cs 7 "0"

serverCommand: 7513 : cs 1134 "n\=Calexus=\t
\3\model\reborn/default\c1\2\c2\2\hc\100\w\0\l\1\tt\0\tl\0\siegecl ass\none\st\single_1\st2\none\dt\0\sdt\2\MBClass\2"

Cvar_Set2: r_autolodscalevalue -1.750000
Can't find models/players/reborn/model_default.surf
Can't find models/players/reborn/animevents.cfg
serverCommand: 7514 : cs 1150 "n\Sentry Fodder\t\
3\model\desann/default\c1\2\c2\2\hc\100\w\5\l\12\tt\0\tl\0\siegec lass\none\st\single_1\st2\none\dt\0\sdt\2\MBClass\ 2"

Cvar_Set2: r_autolodscalevalue -1.750000
Can't find models/players/desann/model_default.surf
Can't find models/players/desann/animevents.cfg
Cvar_Set2: forcepowers 7-1-313000000000000110[/color]
serverCommand: 7515 : cs 21 "3666150"

serverCommand: 7516 : cs 30 "-1|-1"

serverCommand: 7517 : cs 293 "2|3666150"

Apart from the "serverCommand" parts, all of these messages are caused by people changing classes or even so much as entering the game. I'm not sure how to fix those, but the invalid effect messages can be fixed by checking around and seeing that all effects are included and spelled correctly.

ZhaOYun
29-07-2004, 16:18
Here's the invalid effect message:

CFxScheduler::PlayEffect called with invalid effect ID: 0

This seems to spam when Jedi are clashing their sabers together... Hope that helps ^^

Sorry about stupid post...

...but it would be nice If someone said something to that ZhaOYun's idea. (Yes I do not know can it be reason or anything...)

Anyway it spams that "CFxScheduler::PlayEffect called with invalid effect ID: 0" very much.

Edit: You know when it stucks when you hit with your saber sometimes? Maybe it just spams that message too much... And maybe server crashes are because of too many jedi/sith clashing sabers

ZhaOYun
05-08-2004, 20:48
Yeah, it could also be the reason the server crashes during a saber lock.

REPLY TO MY POST YOU FIENDS!

Aezeroth

Well, the server crashes not just during saber lock, but from what I've seen, the server has potential to crash right when entering the game when it has 10/20 ppl or more...

this kinda supports your theory, today we had about 8 people playing, my team as gunners, the other as sith (that has nothing to do with it, but i'll just add that we kicked sith but. ;) . The server crashed once, and then 3 more times in a row, as we all chose classes and got back into the game, it crashed again, for a total of 4 times in less thatn 1 minute. It stopped when someone left, so that might give you an idea of how much of that 'junk' you can take.

Hey, how about an actual reply instead of telling me what I'm doing wrong? This is probably the cause of over 50% of the crashes the MB2 server has right now.

Aezeroth

I really don't know about this problem on a technical basis, but I suggest that we discuss all the things related to crashes like this. So far we have 2 definite things that we can list...

1. Connection interrupted at the beginning of the game can occur up to 2 or even 3 times before being able to get in.

2. It usually occurs when the public server has 10/20 ppl or more.

1. Connection interrupted at the beginning of the game can occur up to 2 or even 3 times before being able to get in.

Even 3? Usually when I connect to almost full server, I get connection interrupted even 3-5 times + some other connecting bugs. As I have already said in this thread, I usually get round starting -thing when connection interrupted -bug comes. And If players are chatting in server (usually they are) I see few lines (maybe 10 or something) of the chat. Example: I scanned server and saw that Rusty is there (server wasn't near full I think), and got through first time. Then I asked that where rusty is, because I didn't saw him now in server... Well Rusty had his connection interrupted bug, and when he got finally through he told me that had seen when I asked where is rusty ^^

Anyway can this have anything to do with round starting? Maybe I get through only when I can finish joining before round changes (though this only when servers are near full). Or I don't really know...

2. It usually occurs when the public server has 10/20 ppl or more.

Yup, almost never when there are, let's say 5 players (still sometimes). But almost everytime when server is near full.

Yes, and almost forgot. Could it be possible that server crashes (sometimes) when people just connect and get that interrupted -bug. Because I have noticed, that many times when I connect to near full server, get few times connection interrupted -bug and then finally get through, server has just crashed. And everyone of course saying there "AAAWWWWW...". Probably you have heard the joke "<name> crashed server, damn you :)". Maybe it isn't a joke... Or then just coincidence.

3-5 times?!! Damn, I've never had that. Also, what's very eird is that a few times I've been able to join on the first try when there were a large amount of people on (ie. 17/20 - 19/20). So I think whether you are able to join the game or not is determined by the amount of processing that goes on. Since more people causes more command processing, the overload is what causes the 'connection interrupted'.

People with faster computers are able to manage connecting, because they load the game before too many commands are relayed to them. That's also why you are more likely to succeed the second time than the first.

Well, my computer is anything but top quality. :p

I bought it back in 2002 and its specs are...

384 mb ram
1.8 ghz processor

and everyone knows that my ping is always in the 100 - 150 range. Anyway, if you count other connection problems excluding 'Connection Interrupted', I guess I have those too...
