Im atempting to work on a map but first i must figure out how exactly am i going to create the FA characters. My first idea (and 1 that would probably create better resaults) was to port the models from another game. Its q3 engine aswell however the character models file structure is diferent in that the individual characters are made of a shared Body model and an idividual head model and skin (instead for a single model for evrything like in JKA) Also the textures are sorted abit diferently so a simple cut and pase is out of the question. Im wondering if anyone would be willing to "clip tugether" a few characters for me from these ready elemets. I atempted to do so myselfe but i used up the trial lisence for the only programs i know would support both games. If noone helps me ill try taking samples of textures off the originals and atempt to retexture the prisoner model.

Porting models is bad. Better make one from scratch or stay with existing ones.

yeah thanks but that was very unhelpfull. As i said before: JKA has a single model and a single SKIN file that aplies the textures to it. While as the game i want to port monedls from (Elite Force) uses separate models for the head and torso aswell as multiple SKIN files. The texture files are also diferent after clo0se inspection. Nothing on the wiki helps me. Belive me if i still could use Milkshape i would do it myselfe.

Well the problem is that the existing JKA models wouldent work for all the characters. I COULD use the prisoner/elder to create some generic classes but the "not anonymus" characters would be a problem. At least im fairly confiden that when i get the basics of GTRadiant i should be able to clip and convert the map.

Porting models is illegal.
So is using Limewire.
So is (theoretically) using torrents.
But we do it anyway, so...?

Not really. You can't weight a model with Milkshape, so it's practically useless for your plans.
Might also be worth to mention that Elite Force models are also a good deal smaller than JKA ones, so their textures will likely look washed out and pixelated if the model gets scaled up to regular JKA size.

Well i still would like 1 character as a test subject tho. To see how big the diference is.

I didn't think using Limewire was illegal, it's what you upload/download that makes it illegal, same with torrents if i'm right?

a friend of mine sait he would give convering an EF model a shot, tho he dosnt have any experiance in modeling characters, only objects like space stations and ships. So of course im still looking for someone to help out. Hoever i started exploring the retexture option. this is what i came up in the first try.

Well it IS my first try at texuring. Wheni learn more about using the Gimp i might try to change it into a First Contact uniform. Those are less colorfull.

I talked to a friend who has photoshop and he says Gimp has all the same options........ so i dont realy see the point.
GIMP is almost the same as Photoshop - Photoshop has more effects and stuff like that, although with a bit of ingenuity you can get all the same effects with the GIMP. And you can get plug-ins for the GIMP as it's open-source.
PS: Prilla is correct...
