Hi guys, I could really use some advice from some experienced people.

Im planning on getting a new graphics card, Geforce GTX 260/280. Its only these 2 cards on the metre right now and it will probably only be those 2, so please keep the other ATI Radeon 4870 and stuff out.

I live in Sweden, and these cards are sold here but with a massive price. I thought about how it would be internationally and I checked some sites that allowed shipping to Sweden. I would definately buy one of these cards if Newegg had the feature but unfortunately they have not, so I stumbled upon Tigerdirect.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3930709&CatId=3669

Theres the card that I am probably going to get. Now I really could use some advice from you guys:

1. If I ship from Tigerdirect, how much will this card cost approximately including every single damn fee that adds to the normal price.
2. How long would it take? (I really don't matter as I just get the card in the end)
3. Would it work with shipping and everything you think?
4. Is it safe, and would you advise it?

Basically, I can get the GTX 280 for a cheaper price than 260 goes here in Sweden so I would aim for this if it would work definately.

Im quite sure that it would work with my motherboard (MSI MS-7255)

If you were in the same situation, would you do it? I'm quite of a moneysaver so I don't like spending an excessive amount of uneccessary actions.

Serious help would be greatly appreciated, and if someone ever bought from this site please post your experiences with them.

You could just, you know, add it to your cart and plug in your shipping info to get your total cost.

Just saying.

As for your mobo, you just need a PCI Express 2.0 slot.

Bitch, read the original post.

Besides, ATI is inferior to the power of Nvidia.

I dont want it because I have certain applications that requires Nvidia, and I like Nvidia more (Yes Ive tried both)

He doesn't need to say why. He said in general to stuff regarding ATI's garbage out.

Anyway...

Geez, so the 4870 is garbage now? Sounds like someone is riding the nVidia fan train.

Even some nVidia fans have said the 280 and 260 were just a terrible move, too expensive for the small advantages it has over the 4870 and 4850.

As for your choice, Jugg, like Myth said, if you don't have PCI-E 2.0, then you might have problems but PCI-E 2.0 cards are MOSTLY backwards compatible.

Why you don't try the new "GTX 260 Core 216", that's a nice performing new card, and costs much less than GTX 280.

I read about it and I will probably only lose 2-5 fps in the bottleneck. But yes Pada 4.5 that is an interesting card. I also need to buy a new PSU so that might be a good deal. Let me think about it.

Thanks for all the showing suppport here.

You would need to pay customs tax as well... This is specific for country, but normally somewhere around ~20%.

BTW, 4870 (and by extension 4850) are just slightly worse than GTX cards and they cost half the price ;)

Applications that _require_ Nvidia? Please enlighten me as to what these would be, as I've never heard of any.

I don't get why people "like" one graphics card brand more than the other. The basic idea of any market is that you go for the best deal and create competition. In something like a graphics card where you don't even see it and it's almost entirely measured by something like a number and a price, it's just idiotic to "prefer" one brand. My 4850 is ~$150 and it can run crysis well on high. Needless to say everything else runs fine. If that's not a deal I don't know what is. (I know some people want more performance for more price, just giving an example)

From newegg:
GTX 260 $215 shipped AR
HD 4870 $230 shipped AR

Erm... not quite half . At least in the US, GTX 260 is definitely cheaper, while being arguably faster. DEFINITELY faster in games with are nVidia biased which sadly are all too common. The 4850 is still a great value, but can't match up to the 260/4870.

EDIT:
Certain older games can have driver issues with the HD 4000 series. One that I know of is Homeworld 2.

Cuda/badaboom... epic **** is epic. Lovely video rendering times with that thing :D

(Works with more than just badaboom btw.)

And as renek said, most games generally run better with Nvidia cause they work closely with it, same with Intel. (know what to expect on both ends)

ATI has it's own CUDA called Stream, too ;)

Anyway, most of people here won't probably get what either of it means so don't bother :p

Stop talking ****, 260 isn't faster than 4870! And that, faster in games which are nvidia biased, argument is ridiculous. 4850 is faster than 260 in games which are ati biased you know, and the same applies for 4870/280.

Also, I went to newegg and the 260 isn't $215, cheapest I could find was like $250.

Thing is, more games are nVidia biased. Have fun disputing that.

Sorry :o
As Assassin said, you should be able to find out the shipping/tax through the shopping cart before you actually buy.

EDIT: I can see where this is going. I'm done posting in this thread, nobody's going to change anyone's mind, so I say we drop it.

HD 4850 for $150 after rebate, that is $65 cheaper than the 260, and only a bit lower performance. Seems to me that the 4850 is the best buy.
