Now that I am using windows for MBII, I am kinda in the need for a good program to play my music, but most importantly, manage my collection and playlists. Codecs and video support and whatnot aren't important, I just need a program that can play mp3 files and correctly use id3v2 tags and stuff like that.

Windows Media Player has decided to change the id3 tags for all 4319 songs I have, even though it's turned off, so don't even dare suggesting that disgrace of a program. It only supports id3v1 anyway.

Itunes is alright I guess, but it doesn't adhere to the mp3 tag standards, so I'm kinda sceptical about it. Like I said, I want everything to be correct.

I'm currently using winamp but I'm not all that happy with it. Maybe I'm too used to Amarok. Unless I'm overlooking it, I'm missing the possibility in Winamp to view my current playlist fullscreen, with title album artist and whatnot in different colums.

Any suggestions?

I love Winamp and use it in other games (LotR, Braveheart and Patriot soundtrack for, i.e. Medieval II: Total War & expansions)..

Plus I have a mouse that has these little hotkeys for previous and next song on the playlist in a program. Then, since that's my kind of music (movie music), I know the order of the songs, duration, mood and the rest. It's really great.

But I use it rarely for games. Very rarely.

I've been rejecting Windows Media Player and using Winamp all my life, so... I'd go with Winamp.

Well, the thing I always do is that I activate my minimizer (yes no KT in my case, only minimizer) and then I start up Winamp and music. When I'm ingame I just have to minimize and switch between my songs/playlists and it works just fine. ;)

So there is my suggestion. :p

Well minimizing isn't an issue, I have one too and minimize all the time.

I just need a media player that is lightweight, easy, and correctly supports id3v2 tags.

Foobar2000 - the best music player. Forget everything else. Foobar2000 is what you are looking for.

A bold claim, but I tried it and it rocks! Thanks oommmcc! Seems like a carbon copy of Amarok at times.

JetAudio's probably the best one I've used to date. Low system use, a great look and style to it, and pretty nice keyboard shortcut options.

There is no alternative to winamp.

I use iTunes.

But then again, I'm not a stickler for metadata.

I use to use winamp. Ever since I got a new computer and went Vista, I've begun to fully utilize Windows Media Player. It's quite the program if you bother with it.
