View Full Version : Why does coinflip midair still exist.

cloudstrife

is it something the coders can't fix because the engine doesnt allow it? because we have been so many builds with it that I guess its the only explanation.

I don't see why pushing someone from height X= death, but X+10= no damage. it simply adds to random unbalance, to be honest.

And I guess we can call it a bug, unless you consider it a feature.

PS: Flipcoin is the midair "Ibeatgravity" thing.

Use search. I believe we stated that it started as a bug but it soon was considered a feature due to people generally liking it.

As Frost says, it's a bug turned feature.

yeah, I guess it adds on the MBII style of gameplay.

But it makes for utterly long pushes off cat and other things not kill you cause really do u think your gonna be laying down in mid air?? or flying upside down and all around and trying to get back to landing on my feet. I mean seriousily if you get pushed off from that high and have that much HANG TIME your not just gonna be sitting there on your back.

prilladog

S1ck next time you've you been basically knocked over by what would feel like a sledgehammer you try landing on your feet, tbh you should go rag doll when pushed from a high :)

Try it.
Besides, I don't give a crap if you flip in midair, if you fall from 10 feet and take damage normally, falling from 50 is going to do more, not NONE because you do a flippytrick (TM).

IF you shove me off a building at an angle like you do in MB2 with the same physics i bet you i could land back on my feet or pretty damn close. Of course you wouldn't "coin flip" but you would generally land face up not on your back like some sleeping loser. But i never said it wouldn't HURT either i am just saying getting rid of it would make it an insta kill for throwing him 600 feet at an angle towards the ground which makes the fall lower when you actually hit the ground.

I think the 'coinflip' animation in general is stupid, and classes should use something like a speedy sold getup. There's better getup animations from base that the weak stormtroopers use that could be ported...

Either way, the ridiculous part of the midair getup is how your speed resets itself.

On the other hand, i like being able to t21 primary myself from high places. It's fun. But terribly unrealistic.

For once I agree with Goose.

If it's unrealistic why was it put it, and if it was a bug, why is it not fixed?

'because too many people still like it' is what's been said in the last like 3 or so threads about coinflipping.

sure, let them coinflip. i just don't want them to negate all gravi-damage if they do it.

prilladog
18-09-2008, 02:34
I agree with that.

cloudstrife

So, because people liked t3, and more importantly t2 (that was a bug with potential to be feature...oh well), it should stay? Nooo, we only want iWins for gunnas

*cough*

Mega-search and an epic thread revival.

Has this "feature" ever been reconsidered? I got to thinking about it a couple of days ago and thought it seemed... well, just plain stupid. A player being pushed off of, say, the DOTF catwalk while walking may die, while one running or jumping actually has a stronger chance of surviving because of it.

It's just one of those sorts of things that I never did understand, and I find myself thinking more and more that it doesn't really make sense when it comes to other features of the game. Players shouldn't be rewarded for running around and being pushed over rather than walking or crouching. Sith using Grip-Push while in melee shouldn't be doing less damage to an enemy by throwing them higher into the air rather than directly forward onto the ground.

It just never made any sense to me, and still doesn't. Call me crazy, but I think it's about time this saw a change. The fix for the bug is obviously out there; is it really a "feature" that we should keep?

StarWarsGeek

I've never seen a good arguement for why this should be kept other than "for the lulz". It lets people who should be dead live for no reason. Using clone blobs and T-21 to break falls would still be possible, you would just have to shoot closer to the ground. You could probably even still use a sec nade to survive falls if you had god-like timing.

U guys...

R too Srs:) If force cant regen until we touch the ground, why cant we force the getup animations to do the same?

I don't mind the actual get-up animation occurring in mid-air. It's the fact that it somehow magically slows your fall that bothers me. If you get thrown off a high ledge and can land on your feet into a roll to save yourself, that's fine by me. But the fact that it can currently prevent you from taking any fall damage at all simply because you are miraculously unaffected by gravity all of a sudden is what seems unreasonable.

Sub, I wouldn't mind hearing your opinion on the subject.

I hate that getup animation (the jedi one where they coinflip horizontally is better. Press C or Jump the next time you're knocked down as jedi to see it if you don't know it.). And I also hate it when people survive using this ****. They're not damn cats they're humans. Even for MB2 it's way too unrealistic.

Obviously Not an Alias
22-06-2011, 07:19
Coinflip tells inertia "Hell naw" the way it is now. I don't think it should completely reset the inertia from falling, but make it a little less harsh since you're landing on your feet rather than your back. MBII already breaks a couple rules for the sake of balance.

My idea plays out like this.

Current coinflip: resets fall inertia completely, making last second coinflips cause no damage when you fall to the ground.

New coinflip: softens fall inertia, but still gives a good amount of damage.

Or:

New New Coinflip: You get pushed from cw, and die.

Oh and let me tell you why the argument ''for lulz'' is stupid as ****. If MB2 was a lulz game, let jedi kill 10 gunners are once, give mandos endless fuel and let em fire 3 rockets at once. See where this is going? :<

Not a fan of coinflip either. Would rather see it removed from all classes except mando.

Mando should have a ''jetpack'' assisted coinflip looking animation. This way they aren't overly punished from falls. Noone else needs it since they don't exactly fly around.

Thats not a bad idea, actually.. And it actually might make some sense. Someone is prolly gonna lolno that though because of "the many gadgets mandos already have".....

Also, just a thought but has there been an official vote about this? Not just some internal beta tester, corrupted and drunk, lolno shoutout.

The Swashbuckler

I like that idea of Mandas specifically having that special coinflip as well, at the expense of a little fuel (automatic?). Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing Jedi/Sith with Jump 3 being given that as well with some FP drained.

For those classes, this sort of thing could make a little sense. For everyone else, it's just out of place and arguably imbalanced.

When it comes to coinflip, the policy has always been lulz > balance. Never has there been a good arguement for keeping it.

Jetpacking coinflip could be pretty awesome though.

Coinflip velocity be gone! Subaru 8 Months Ago

Unless something unexpected comes up, coinfip saving players from falling through no effort on their part will be gone (so not in the cases of t-21 primary, blob, etc.) in the next release.

So mainly by things like force pushing off of high ledges or kicks off? I completely agree with this.

Death Star is the best example. Can you even kill a gunner by pushing them down the lift tunnel in the hangars? Maybe if you push them straight down but its such a silly thing.
