A home left standing among debris from Hurricane Ike in Gilchrist, Texas on Sept. 14. (Smiley N. Pool / The Houston Chronicle) source (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26724729/)

The owner must've been loving it.

Not unless dinner is taking place in that picture. Cause otherwise the house would explode as soon as he left, and then it'd be the MOST damaged part of the picture.

I live right in Tornado Alley, so I see pictures of houses left standing while the rest of the neighborhood is completely gone.

But that's a tornado...which is only a couple tens of feet in diameter...hurricanes are hundreds of miles. So either this homeowner got really, really lucky, he built the house incredibly well, or it's just Photoshopped.

I've seen quite a few pixels from storms.

In one way, you are lucky... I always wanted to see a tornado in real life... :(

One day I'll knock at your door and say ''bring me a supercell thunderstorm". :p

Chuck can't actually kick above his waist, as well as being like, 5' 2"

But OT, Yeah, it's nice to see when houses still stand, allows for people to have some form of shelter when their homes are destroyed

Captain Falcon defeated Ike in order to save that house. Proven Fact. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac3RjuPzh3o)

Tornadoes are nice and all, but the real sight is a wall cloud.

They usually come right before tornadoes. They're really low and they're gigantic. I was playing in a little league baseball game one day many years ago, and a wall cloud formed right over the diamond. It was awesome.

Yes. Look at the size of the house in relation to the telephone poles, or are those trees? Just a bit further back. The house in relation to them looks ENORMOUS.

Completely photoshoped, there isnt even a driveway to it.

As for the wall cloud, that one in the pic is a bit exagerated. They aren't that big unless its like a massive tornado that is about to destroy the world. I know because I've seen some IRL.

Yeah man now I know my fair share about tornadoes even though I never saw one :p. But as I said, one day I'll travel there to watch a few haha. :D

massive tornado

That one in the picture looks like it's a thousand feet in diameter, which is pretty big, the average tornado size is like 500 feet. Wikipedia says a tornadoes' size does not have a direct correlation to its damage capacity. Thanks, Wikipedia!

I've seen shows with mile-wide tornadoes, and there have been 2.5 mile wide tornadoes.

If you didn't notice, I fkkn love tornadoes.

Could be destroyed, or under all that water.

You to also realize, you're looking at the back of the house in that picture.

Lone houses just don't survive a hurricane like that.

They can survive more concentrated storms like tornados, which have been known to even hop over houses sometimes, but hurricanes are just too big to randomly miss one single house in an entire neighborhood.
