Hi, before you post just read what I have to say. Im the noob you was all waiting for to start this post because I was bored of waiting for someone other to bring this up. For starts you can not say oh its a joke someone spreaded because its not they are turning on this machine. Also I would like to say a few facts and if someone would be kind enough to say the more details I will add them.

-All I know is at GMT:00 at 11AM in switchland there turning on some machine and there objective is to see how the universe was made or something like that. Here is the link to some videos which explain it as for its to much for my little brain to explain. Please spare some time to watch before posting.

-Edit video very intresting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71G-tTa0CMs&feature=related

Video 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-8DKeXi32U

video 2: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwhbYWtfiQM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwhbYWtfiQM)

heres a few comments some people have said :

1. 3% it will not work
if it does work we will have unlimited energy
The dark mator created will have to be Contained an never release / or black holes....

But just think
Chance a cat will land on its feet from falling 1-5% My cat died 2 days ago didnt land on its feet...
So Be prepared For atlease half of Europe to be Gone tomorrow

2. omg this is bull, these stupid scientist are risking billions of lives for one stupid expermiment, but even so there is very little chance a black hole will produce that can end the world

---
Now I myself am a bit scared to be honest yes I know its a 1/50000 Chance but even if it sucseeds I still think it will soon suck us in.

---
I would like to also say please dont moan at people for what there saying if they add the odd false facts because its not there faultl thats why I made this post to learn from it.

May the force be with us. (Sorry for the bad grammer im not the best at explaining)

-Edit " Find a convo about it here http://www.reddit.com/r/science/comments/6zss3/end_of_the_world_10th_september_2008/

-Edit " Please take this seriously its not kind to laugh about it as caused panic and people in switchland have caused suiside"

-Edit -Good Things people have posted I recommend you read them,

Haven't read the previous posts but... In MY opinion...

I'm very unsure. On one hand, I think scientists shouldn't attempt something like this yet. I think they won't have it under control. It's too far a risk.

On the other hand, I'm not informed about the good stuff from this "little experiment", so I can't really speak for the possibly good stuff.

So again, I'm at the same time scared & uncertain. But that's in human nature. To be afraid of the unknown.

If **** happens and we die, at least I lived a decent life.

I literally mean this: Unplug the power cord to your computer and never speak of this ever again.

And 2012 isn't a year of the world as we know it ending. Everyone loves to talk about the end of the world but rarely anyone talks about the world getting better. Destruction is the easiest thing humans can do, so it's no surprise that its the easiest thing people can talk about when talking about the future.

There is no chance the LHC will make a black hole. You think your word is more educated then the scientists working on this thing? Go away, go live your life.

I didn't say get a life, I said go live your life. You are worrying over nothing. I find your creation of this topic offensive in that you are saying my world is going to end because of people who are only trying to help.

Oh and btw, after the scientists said that they did a study over the thing and said, "It poses no threat to anyone."

Just saw a really strange bug too.. As I was editing this post the "save" button was turned into "Vote now." Wtf?

i think that the scientist's opinion which are actually working on this is to take more seriously than anyone else's opinion, and they say it will be fine. Also, creating small dark holes? man, thats EXCITING. I have been following this accelerator since some time now, im expecting the results of it, we will have to wait a few months still to get some interesting tests though...

i think the biggest problem here is people are either mis-informed or listening to silly opinions, here's what ive put together from being quite interested in this topic...

these scientists are not trying/going to create small black holes, whqat theyre doing is bouncing atoms off eachother like they think might have happend at the begining of the univerese, this event actually happens billions and billions of times natrualy every day, the massive tunnel under the alps is designed to kinda 'watch' them and see what they do, the chances of the world ending or even a small explosion happening are exactly the same of it just happening randomly one day

dont panic i say, really, if it worries you, read a lot more about whats actually happening

and hey, if it does all go b00m, then lets hope they have MB in heavenz :D

VD, well medical things + English will be maybe fail but I will try..

1) Prague, Czech republic.
2) Will turn age of 70 in December.
3) Can u explain better I am lost here.. :/ (If u asked what's he doing on surgery, doctors said they will remove spleen).
4) He's got diabetes and leucemia. Previous medical issues? He's got something wrong with the blood, that's why they want to remove spleen. Symptom was clearly always seen, he always had spitting, under his skin, red coloured, especially it was seen on legs. Extremly low level of blood platelets I think. I dunno too much, cause I never heard it from doctors, always my mother told me, so she always told me only something.
Edit: I forgot, he had once I think blood-poisoning from some scratch on his arm.

They're just turning the machine on tomorrow, not starting the experiment.

And I've read from multiple sources that
Black holes of the size that the LHC *may* produce will be too small to consume a proton, let alone us or the Earth, and they evaporate into a spray of particles in a roughly a femtosecond, less time than it takes a ray of light to travel across a strand of DNA

the biggest issue he has as far as i can tell is his diabetes, but if czech health care is similar to UK, which im pretty sure theyre close as far as how they do surgery etc, he shouldnt have too many complications, but he MUST follow every thing the doctors tell him to do like diet and excercise etc

wish i could be more posotive, but this is a big operation, and ive seen people go into theatre to have tonsils out, and not come out again (kinda have to say that, ya cant promise someone itll be ok) but honestly i think it shouldnt be a critical surgery, he should be ok :D

Dividing by zero.Calculus has an answer, more or less. A negative number divided by zero is negative infinity, a positive divided by zero is infinity. The zero on the bottom implies a vertical asymptote, the behavior of a function as it approaches that asymptote going to astronomically large or small. Zero over zero is a removable discontinuity in a function (i.e. a hole). So while it's true that dividing by zero is in itself impossible, it does yield an answer.

Calculus has an answer, more or less.

No forget calc look at it logically you cant take something and divide it into nothing.

The super collider has almost no chance of creating a black hole, and even if one were to be created it would be so tiny that it would collapse in upon itself. Black holes come into and go out of existance all the time, most just don't have enough mass to do anything but collapse. Heard that from one of the physicists working on the collider when he was a guest on The Colbert Report. At least, that's what I remember.

As I've understood it they're attempting to find out if our current theory concerning energy and mass is correct. That is, if two particles collide with one another at a speed high enough, the result would be an increase in mass. Its sort of how we figure Big Bang happened, which is one of the things this particle accelerator could prove.

I believe one of the main things it's supposed to do is prove whether that whole Higgs boson theory is correct. Something about some omnipresent field that prevents every atom in the universe from going all over the place at the speed of light, and when energy interacts with the field it makes some kind of particle. I'm not entirely sure, I read about that a long time ago so I might be somewhat wrong.

2) Their are more powerful collisions happening in our atmosphere constantly than the collisions produced here

3) The media scaremongering was for the wrong date. Yes it started today but only in one direction. No collisions will happen until around saturday where they start sending particles the other way.
