View Full Version : What was you favorite JK game for Powers?

Well, there were some charged powers in DF2 that were very believable within the Star Wars universe (Exception of Destruction, possibly) some somewhat spammy, but still pretty believable powers in JKII, and some pretty over the top additions in JKA. Which style did you like more, and why?
All seem the same to me. I didn't notice the difference in any force powers that I was given access to.
*Grip wasnt good in JKI(for me?)
*Force throw was teh lulz.
I LIEK MOTS

Technically Outcast & Academy are the better of course but storywise Jedi Knight is unbeatable.
MotS is also nice.

I liked how JKII handled force powers, but mostly just how they introduced them slowly across many levels, so that Kyle's development had a natural feel to it.
My real problem with Force powers as they've appeared in every SW game is that they always trivialize combat. Can't anybody make a game where Push and lightning aren't "I win" buttons?

P.S. When I typed that, I wasn't thinking about MB at all. Don't take it that way!

We basically do have all the DF2 powers apart from throw.

Dark Forces (Before Kyle turned into a lolJedi)
Nothing like Dark Troopers and E-11 fire deflecting off.

One word:
Blinding.
That word will erode my soul for eternity. You never got hit with it while you had seeing up, oh, no, you always got hit with it when you had just finished blasting someone with destruction or healing up or something.

JK1, mostly for the fact that, as mentioned before, the powers felt more natural and complemental to the general combat and they had the most kickass powers ever made (Destruction, Deadly Sight, and Throw) before anyone else.

I remember the first time playing JK1 after DF. It was so much fun using the Force powers. But my favorite is probably JK2.

I really think that functionally, the force powers were best in JK1.
They had good variety and worked well within the whole of the game.
Force unleashed is almost s regression, it has fewer force powers and the game is built around them rather than the force being built into the game, although obviously 10+ years of technology have given them more entertaining visuals and physics.

This is a poll about the style of the FORCE POWERS, not the overall game.

That's the idea though, we're saying **** you and your force powers.

Jedi Outcast. As much as I would've loved Absorb when fighting Desann, the added force powers in JKA seem really stupid (and in the case of Drain and Rage, completely overpowered.) Also, the way you gained force powers in JK2 was far cooler than JKA (and more balanced. Getting grip 3 at the beginning of the game made it a freaking cake walk on Jedi Master mode).
Dark forces had awesome force powers, I miss blinding and insanity (Forgot the name of the power that made people go catatonic, it was so long ago), but they felt more like weird powers than The Force.

JKII definetly.. probably because it's the first ever SW game I played and I was so amazed by the possibilities.

The poor AI made that mission FTL though. They would spot you when they shouldn't and you'd just get captured. I learned how to map edit and totally scrapped the alarm sequences from that map, and had no trouble taking everyone on.

Jedi Outcast for me, though I didn't play Dark Forces 1 or 2.

You didn't include mysteries of the sith, a DF2 expansion pack. It had some neat forcepowers that weren't in the other jedi knight series games.
DF2. Force Destruction. F-CK YEAH

Dark Forces 2 | Absorb in multiplayer was easily my favourite force power, simply because it made every dark power completely useless.
You have to admit the light side just rocked. Blind spamming people, absorbing all their lightning or grip and then healing. Only thing that wasn't so useful was persuasion, funny though.
Although I havent played Dark Forces I have played JK:O, which like JKA is the same-ish and cannot really be placed in seperate force powers.
My favorite force power has to be mind trick level 4 in SP, this power is LOL.
Controlling NPC's has to be the best part of the cheats, that and saberlock increases.
However, on a basic MP level... Drain would probably be my fravorite;
Draining their FP for more HP.

A mixture...
I like the more natural/improved/better feeling of a lot of the JK2/JK3 powers, over their JK1 counterparts...
But some of the JK1 powers didn't appear in JK2/JK3. Obviously, I've been implementing those into MBII slowly: Destruction, Blinding, Deadly Sight...
Some of the ones in JK1 just stank though: The MOTS 'farsight' power that'd just get you killed 3/4 of the time... The chargeable Jump that'd quite often make you bang your head on something and fall and die...
Not fun, and it didn't feel natural for a Jedi to bounce around like a yoyo and smash himself against the ceiling. JK2/JK3's Jump is much nicer and better from a gameplay and immersiveness standpoint, if not a 'movie realism' standpoint.
One power that I've missed from JK1 is Force Throw... It's difficult to implement in Quake 3 unfortunately, and basically would require a fair bit of map re-designing to be useful. As those who've played JK1 can attest, it was largely useless most of the time. But cool when it actually worked.
(For those who don't know, in JK1, Force Throw would let you fling nearby objects at people, to deal damage. If there weren't objects that were throwable around--little greyish crates--the power wouldn't do anything. Which made it very situational.)
A more modern engine with physics would be foolish not to implement the power as a core map feature though(I'm looking at you, TNE. Design your maps to include random physics objects laying around in advance. You'll thank yourselves later.).
There're some efforts in MBII to make Force Throw viable, but nothing serious yet.
