Instead of making 100 threads about different questions i have, i thought it might be better if i simply made one thread on it.
What i am trying to do is create a Bend in a glass-window structure that is composed of an Angle formed by two peices of glass fit together. Now, i want it to look like it's made of a single piece of glass, so if i texture the entire thing as glass, i'll have multiple glass textures overlapping eachother creating an unrealistic look to it. The problem is, if i use caulk, i get another problem where anything BEHIND the caulk is shown as invisible in the map. [Like the Actual frame of the glass]
So my question is, what can i texture the 'I don't want people to see this' side of the glass brush so that people see the glass and the wall frame.
To give you an idea;
it will never appear in mb2 though, i promise you that.

Some help would be nice...
Just use caulk or nodraw_solid.
what's so bad about it looking like two pieces put together? >_> As long as the map is good it's awl gud

The two textures will overlap and will darken in color which will produce an unnatural look to the glass.
IMO you should focus more on playability then looks
use a patch mesh instead of 2 brushes? o.o
didnt need a whole thread about such minor issues, this is what irc is for!!!! XDD!

It's not like i'm making this for the CMP. This isn't even for moviebattles, this is just for fun.
that doesnt matter! :D
...i just like people to talk to, cmp channel is lonely D; *pokes varlesh* ^^

Some of the textures are poorly aligned and there are far too many different coloured metals in the hallway.

this map seems cool
a patch mesh for the windows would be easier. save you textureing the nasty sides of a brush with nodraw

I'll be honest, i know how to place light entities and spot lights... but my knowledge about virtually every topic in mapping with the exception of brush manipulation is extremely limited; and i don't understand the nuances of making light look realistic.

Oh, those shaders. I know what those things are; i've worked with them occasionally.

is there any way to change the way a texture is placed onto a patch structure like a cylinder.
I don't know if there is in 1.4, but in 1.5 it is Shift + S.

Nevermind... For some reason patches are very stubborn, and only allow for texturing to be done in a single way. in order to texture it the way i want i have to cut out a brush to look like a patch.
Well, if you can manipulate it to be very specific with the patch editor, it is just something that is (most likely) outside of your skill set.

How so?
The hallway has like 6 or 7 different colours in it, it just looks silly.

I'm working on a new hallway that is more texturally succinct with the main room... the problem is, my texture selection is very limited, and while i think the design [As cheap as it is for me to use it] that i am using now is better than it's predecessor, i still have a very short number of textures i can use; and in general the texture work is sloppier than the previous one. It's not done yet though, it still needs that top lamp that the other one had.
On another note, the main corridor that was seen in the other pictures has had some edditions to it. [Note that you are looking through the map with the caulk filtered option. The fact that i am changing the main hall might mean that this design is going to be scrapped entirely; but it was still pretty cool looking IMO.
Bottom up veiw
Top down veiw
I must admit Ipod, this map is looking really good, nevermind just a personal project, you ought to release it for the cmp.

thats completely wrong. highlight the patch and press SHIFT + S (works in both 1.4 and 1.5 btw UL) and try clicking fit / natural / cap, the texture on the patch will change after you've used one of these :P

Texturing is still crappy.... i might actually retexture the rooms before it. Unfortunately i've looked at all of the other textures i could use; with the plausible exception of Nar Shadda [which for some reason isn't in my texture browser] all the other maps are military bases or temple ruins, i can't find anything that it suitable for a less imposing 'apartment' design. And i have 0 experience with making my own textures, so please don't bring that up.
plus the fact, like i said, those designs aren't unique.

Come to think of it... making my own textures might not be a bad idea... I think i know what i can do to create some new textures out of old ones. Changing colors and removing ugly designs from walls.

I have a few textures now, since i'm so goddamn cheap i am going to make the colors blue and white [primarilly]
