Future tournament ideas

The current Raging Battles tournament has been fantastic so far and the level of commitment, teamwork and skill by all the teams involved has been a pleasant surprise. Now I know we're quite a long way away from discussing future tournaments as this one is quite far from being finished (May 10/11 weekend is Euro quarter-finals, 17/18 is American quarters, 24/25 is the American semi-finals and the European semi-finals, May 31/June 1 is the American grand final & European grand final and June 7/8 is the international grand final). But judging by the positive response to this tournament and the general consensus that there needs to be more competitive events in Mb2, I'd like to sound out for some possible future tournament events.

Before I sound out some ideas, I'd like to just let you all know that the Raging Battles Mb2 tournament will return at the end of this year (early December, maybe with a small hiatus over Christmas/New Year, and then end in late January). This will give clans something to work up to, thus giving meaning to 'clan practices and scrim's' that before-hand lacked a great deal of significance. There will probably be a bit of a different format, possibly a round-robin system etc, but there's plenty of time to work things out. But before and also after then, I'd like to hold more, but different, kinds of tournaments. I had some ideas that I thought I should brainstorm you guys with to gauge public opinion:

1. Saber tournament

-- 1 v 1 (This would be like Saberfang's one held ages ago that Jaat won) Pro of this is that it's mono e mono, best saberist in the game would win, Con is that there would be a huge load of duel matches to organise.
-- Pairs. Pro of this would be that it involves teamwork, so that introduces a new element to the saber tournament that the 1 v 1 lacks, Con is that backwhacks might prevail???
-- 4 v 4 (This would be like DSi SilentKai's saber tourney). Pro is that more people can play and it becomes a really team-oriented saber duel, Con is that it might become a little spammy.

2. 'Podfitness' tournament rules

In Australian Mb2 last year a big tournament was held where most of the top players in Australia participated. The rules were 3 v 3, but the difference was that each team had to have a soldier, elite trooper, and hero/BH and no grenades were allowed, except for the BH's thermal. What happened was an awesome gunner extravaganza, and the whole dynamic of the matches changed. Without saberists to sense, and the cheapness of SBD's, dekas, Mando rockets, clone blobs, arc rockets, and all that, you had a really tense gunner battle and lots of maps that couldn't ordinarily be played in matches like Dust 2, Echo Base, etc, could be. I'd love to see a tournament like this on the global Mb2 stage.

3. Gunner tournaments (more novelty oriented)

-- Sniper tournament (projectile rifle only, no dodge allowed)
-- 1 v 1 ET war (e-11 only, 1 life, no grenades, would be to determine who the best gunner is in Mb2)
-- 4 v 4 ET wars (same rules, but would determine the best gunner team)

I think a 2v2, one soldier, one ET, is a more enticing tournament than a 4v4 ET thing...

Tom made a 'Pistolduel' map for it that was a wild west setting with identical pistol classes. I remember once we played it on the FA server with 24 people and after an epic game of pistol gluttony we all lined up on opposite ends of the map and did a Civil War style pistol fight.:D

Soldiers vs. Deka 15v1, the solds have 1 life, no armour, and pistol 1. The twist is the Deka has to roll/bash his face on the keyboard instead of actually using his hands to play, this is to make the fight more even.

Wouldn't just want to see it restricted to ET's (and admittedly, it'd make more sense to be a 4v4 soldier tourney for balance purposes), but an all-gunner tourney with only one or two of the more basic game classes available might actually force me to stray from my "no competitiveness" philosophy. It'd just be great to finally see another genuine Stormtrooper squad against a Rebel squad. Granted, I'd opt for a larger game than just a 4v4, myself. It's been far too long since anyone in this game has gotten to see a full-on 10 vs. 10 (or 12 vs. 12, or 16 vs. 16) soldier battle.

Podfitness sounds like alot of fun, but what I'm really wanting is for tom to make a new FA for pistolduel with hitscan weapons to get a real western thing going on with it and have a tourny there. ^^

Mandalorians have the EE-3, which does 30 damage as well. So both can dish out the same damage.

Either a 4v4 saber duel, a 4v4 jedi vs sith with no sabers (for the lulz), a 10v10 sold battle (with merc teams to allow people from smaller clans to participate) or a defence 0 4v4 saber duel, which would be favourite.

I don't see why you'd restrict rockets. ARCs have the greatest mobility and defense against them...aside from Push.

After this tournament, there will definitely be a saber tournament, although at this point I'm leaning toward a 1 v 1 or 2 v 2. Then after that there'll be a nice hiatus before the second Raging Battles MBII Tournament at the end of the year (which will give clans/teams plenty of time to prepare) and then the equivalent of the saber tournament next year after the big tournament will be a tournament under 'Podfitness rules'.

As for the 'Podfitness' name, it was a joke name created by dV[8] Siege (one of his other names is 'Pod'). Siege's team, which consisted of himself, Kez, Cyclone and myself, which ended up winning the tournament, had some nonsense tags as if some gym company was sponsoring us.:p

Oh, btw... A suggestion as an amendment to podfitness, is to allow grenades, but only one per person and no secondary nades.

Also, it'd be nice if there was a tournament that was going on when I'm not busy. xD

In the Australian Podfitness tournament, it never ended up as E-11 spam. T-21 and A-280 got used a lot as well as the E-11.

Or possibly something like 'react the films', where it's FA of scenes such as Obi Wan & QuiGon onboard the Federation ship vs 10+ soldiers. Whoever gets furthest wins. ;o

Currently i would indeed have epic orgasms if we could get a 1v1 tournament up and running, i also like the idea of 2v2, but the thing with it is that it will turn into a rapefest would could last quite awhile:D I guess that's what makes it fun, not all players can 2v2 or 2v1 as good as they 1v1. I encourage and support metaguardian in any way possible regarding these 2 suggestions and i believe it will be some great fun for us duelers who have waited for builds together for such a thing to be held, with the supervision of people who knows how to organise such a thing. I don't know all great duelers, but i am looking forward to meeting my fellow friends and unknown friends alike o.o. I'm all for 1v1 and 2v2.

So it it's being held, it would be very fun and memorable for many members of this community who enjoy the very interesting saber system of this mod. Especially with the developments that has taken place recently.
