Hi i'm tom (some of you might remember me).
After a long break from MB i decided to pick up mapping again, and made this map wich takes place on Coruscant.
The first idea was to make the objective to capture Zam Wesell, and get her to the Jedi Council for interogation.
Now that the map is nearing completion , i think its a bad idea to put in a escorte npc objective , so it will be basicly a TFFA-map ! ( dont we all like that :p )
The new objective will be :Imperials have to purge any remaining Jedi and Jedi-friends (so if they don't manage to do that in 5 minutes, the Jedi/rebs win)
The things that are left to do are some minor detail additions,a proper skybox and a FA (the FA state is currently at zero hehe)
and some screenies
I wouldn't go around shouting the FA isn't done in public. There's gonna 15 A4 sized elaborate suggestions for it.
Also, am I the only one who thinks those textures are kinda... how to put it, basey?
well then i guess i wait a bit , till i find some time to make some diff textures ( quite a few are actually placeholders anyway)

Base-y, perhaps... but for the most part, they DO fit the scene.
Looks good to me so far... I'll check it out a little later and will report back.

So what's the word on cover for this? Will it be pretty easy to come by in the final version, or are things gonna remain rather open?
I do agree that this map looks generally pretty "base"y. However, I think it captures the movie pretty well at the same time. I think I'm really going to enjoy this map. It seems to combine the classic feel of the Jedi Knight series without any of the suck, yet, at the same time, it looks like it's just out of coruscant from the movies (as much as it can be and still be able to run on... you know, computers). Can't wait to try it out; hopefully it'll be more of a try before DotF comes back, though I'm pleased to see, recently, a few rotation servers here and there that actually have people on them.
Can we expect this in RC2? (Forget if that was already mentioned here)

When I first played it, I thought so too because there was no objective it was just hunt down and kill, which felt base-like, it just grows on you and I kinda like it for a change.

i think it would of been a good idea to put the NPC obj in. it worked nicely with jabba and it added comedy to gameplay somewhat
ive always played the game as a lonewolf, and tffa was goal in any map, but arnt we suppost to promote teamwork still??
map looks nice, might boot the game up to have a play :cool:

Hostage
Depending on the side you have chosen, you are either supposed to keep hostages under your control, save them from the enemy, capture a certain NPC or even take a certan player of the other team hostage. Time can be of importance in any of those situations, so read your briefing carefully. As a last note, remember whether you need to free/hold all hostages or only a certain number of them and whether killing them is allowed. It may even happen that the target you have to save gets taken down right in front of you or that you get punished for letting that happen.
We've yet to have a hostage rescue objective. I think it could work if done correctly.

I don't know if you got that from CS, but I agree. That would be pretty cool, although slightly hard for the rescuers.
I was kinda busy lately , but at last i found the time to continue working on it.
So what's the word on cover for this? Will it be pretty easy to come by in the final version, or are things gonna remain rather open?
there will be basicly no real change on the layout , so yes it will stay open , though theres plenty of cover
IE: the imp-side can get to the Club unseen and only expose themself to snipers where they come out from under the bridge till the entrance of the Club on the main route ( see pic )

yes the Team persueded me so i kind of made a compromise :p tho for now it will be a hostage , but unlike Jabba or Korriban the rebs actually have to defend the NPC till times up

yeah i had initial problems with the deka
so the NPC is "usable" so could actually be hidden anywhere on the map
and got dmg-reduction ( thanks Ace)
I think more natural cover (not boxes and such) would still be nice for the outside, and the inside looks nice.

Umm. He's a hostage, not shoot-to-kill target. The rebels have taken hostages (or separatists/some evul galactic terrorist group) and they have to prevent imps (or republic) from rescuing them. Both teams get teamkilling points if they shoot any of the hostages.

current setting is that the NPC got information the Rebs want , so yes the Imps will likely kill it to prevent that

well they can "use" the NPC but theres nowhere to bring her to win the round ( EG: Jabba / DS )

Do you get information from the NPC like Theedstreets ?
no the imps have to kill the NPC so she doesnt get interogated

The easiest way to prevent dirrect camping is to, tactically, make certain forms of camping very dis-advantageous for victory. [Since obviously the concern is winning with lousy camping tactics]
Unless it's something really obnoxious, i have no problem with the defending team, actually defending.
This looks pretty cool tom and also wb..

the bounty-hunters goal is to kill her , the Jedi are suposed to bring her to the landing pad so she can be transported

With any luck dg server will come to the rescue and have it on rotation later.
Played it yesterday; Imps have an advantage totally, they dont even need to move from the objective untill the last second then they blitz spawn.
My Suggestion;
Imps win on time.
Rebels have two escape routes; The landing pad and the tram thing, thats near Imp spawn.

That's not true at all. You don't use Seeing when you're under heavy fire, but when you're not, it's very effective against ambushes. And it hardly results in no FP; you can block shots reasonably for several seconds before you're in danger. Plenty of time to spot a gunner and act accordingly.
Pilo is a good guy, he isn't afraid of ambushes.
This is on the Elite Warrior rotation (Lunar->DotF->Cora) now.
A little suggestion would be to make the small outhanging under the exit pad not slippery. This way Jedi (if they dare) can jump to it, then jump to the pad. It also may be a way to ninja down as a gunner, and not lose all your hp.
Another suggestion would be to make another exit area for Zam. I think the sniper tower might be a good place, just make it a little harder to get there.
Regardless, I love the map. It's at a tie right now for first place with Corellia.

its a jedi heaven. LULZ I BE CAMPIN ZAM 3 OF US CAN KILL UR ENTIRE TEAM OF 16.
Since the current Jedi Temple layout wasnt much of a success, Frost, GoodOlBen and I thought it would be best to give it a change of layout.
Some issues with the old layout was the imperials spawning in the hangar, adding extra time for the teams to meet up.
First I tore apart the map deleting non essential areas such as the Hangar, one of the large corridors and a few other minor ones. In addition I added a few new rooms like the Training room, Intersection and another corridor. Now the spawns are reversed with the Rebels spawning in the training room and the Imperials spawning in the Main hall. The objective has also been split into two parts: Hacking the beacon, and killing four of the seven younglings.
In the picture below you can see that Laboratory doors are closed at the start but can be opened by a switch in the Council Chamber. Doing so will create a shortcut, much like the security override in Lunar Base. It is also not mandatory for the completion of the objective in the map.

The main issue for me has always been that there are those nice large fighting areas (staircases, main hall, hangar, library...) but the true chokepoints are boring narrow doorways, and this seems to be the case still.
I agree. When players start guarding small doorways the game can turn into a mind-numbingly boring ********.
The solution, of course, is bigger doors.

since you're a tester you have influence on this remember ;)
the goal is to let the teams engage on those points you mentioned
so dont forget to keep an eye on this next tests

I'm really hoping this layout will support more fighting especially in the Library area. It's my personal favourite along with the Beacon Room.

Didn't the old layout contain a huge corridor on the sublevel as well? Anyway, I'd love to see that layout return for 24-32 players. For lower amounts of players the new layout looks way better.

As suggested in private (but no one here can see) was to use the new feature that opens doors based on player count which would allow the old layout to be used... its up to tom though :P

The bridge that was underneath was on the old, old JT. That being said, it may also be a good idea to use the script for the doors to open to when a player cap is met, as Mace stated above me. If the new design works and there is "almost" nothing wrong with it, I don't think adding another part on the bottom would have that much use. If jedi or clones win constantly by numbers when the server is (or near) full, I could say that adding the old bottom part would be a really cool thing to have, to be practical and for the sake of nostalgia.

The hangar was nice. No need to remove it. One room more or less makes no difference.
The new layout looks sweet, though!
The hanger caused camping, though. You would spend 3 of the 5 minutes waiting for the clones to leave the hanger. :P

Yeah but that was just because the clone team is to weak. I really liked the very old setup, where the clones where in heavy advantage and the jedi had to survive/camp somehow - was much more fun (also as a jedi).
