Ive been working all day on getting a working DVD image for this mod

Ive created a working one however I am unsure of how many people would use it

It contains:

MBII RC1
CMP Remix
Movie Map Pack

it rounds off to 1.5 Gigs and the installer has its own splash screen and billboards (background images while installing)

it is an IMG file

im just curious if anyone would download it...
thanks much!

If it is a working unviersal installer that works perfectly I believe that many people would use it. And oh, ISO is always better as it is the universal image format.

What can you do with this image?
Is it just the files so that you can install the mod faster, or is it something special?

I wouldn't.

just a single copy of the required files presented nicely :-)
Also, if you wanted to make it available for download, seriously, do it as an ISO not any other format (daa, uif, mds, bin, nrg, img etc etc)

A good idea might be to include the updater in the installer (in case you haven't already) so when the game gets updates the DVD won't be a waste of space after a new version is released.

*shameless ad* When it reaches mass production use this as cover! :p

hahaha thats a nice cover!!!
i should add that in the installation XDD

okay i got most bugs fixed, its not much, however i cant host t as a single image!!!

filefront = max of 1 gig uploads!

anywhere else i could host it?

Spanned archive would do the trick, but they're annoying as hell. I suggest you buy a domain name or ask the MB team really nicely. I also have a web server but I don't really have 1.5GB to spare and it's in London (I think) giving most Americans pretty horrible speeds - quite aside from the bandwidth cost for even a few dozen people to download that much. You could submit it to jk3files, too, I guess.

Damn you, Some0ne! :p

Rapidshare might be a good choice. Or some similar, like Megaupload.

-----------------

About making a DVD - I don't really think there's any real use for it. Especially wehn combined with the CMP, the whole package gets updated way too often to keep people interested in downloading it. Noone's gonna wait for 1+ GB to download just to get some FA updates or a handfull of bugfixes.

It might be cool once we officially cease to develop MB2 - a well made DVD box could be a nice visual souvenir to remind you of the hopefully great times you had playing the game - but that day hasn't come yet.

You can have a collection of all the weird posts I've read on the forums over the time. This one's sure among them. :p

the installation comes with an automatic updater, it would inform people of new updates

as to how it works im not sure, maybe with someone who has more experiance working with InstallSheild

remember that not even mb2 is @ jk3files.com, we only want to do such stuff for V1. Doesn't seem correct if you post it there quite frankly. But good idea of making the DVD.

Isn't is basically a JKA rip? I doubt they'll want the full game hosted! XD

thanks,

if i cannot find a way to get the automatic updates to work (i could ask fluke from Sabers Only 24/7 to assist me, hes had some experiance with working with InstallShield) i could simply create an update installation for it, its not that difficult, if anything i could make it update the setup files in the DVD itself..

my idea is to make this as simple as possible... its simple enough as it is, however im going to attempt to make it also user freindly, as in, instead of having it install everything, make it install certain parts, for example, if a user wanted to just install the CMP (if they already have MBII installed) they could do that and not install the movie map pack

or vice versa

either way, MBII would install as a default

again, i may need someone who is familiar with Installsheild to help me with the project, i got the app, just need a coder...

Thanks for the feedback tho!!!

for those of u who dont know my user name on JKA

its (CoR)xMaris(G)

no, the installation only contains MBII and the other files, i was thinking of making a personal installation to install JKA+ MBII however i realised that it wouldnt work due to the JAMP.exe requiring CD 1

unless theres an alternative method to making it skip the CD 1 requirements its just an Installation

Movie Battles II is a MODIFICATION, it wouldnt be considered a rip, it still uses the JKA core functionality (ie assets1 + assets2 etc)

What's the point for it being on DVD then? And yeah, a no-cd crack does wonders.

Yeah .. like screwing with MB2 to the point where it crashes all the time.

Forget about cracks.
For JA there is a mini image that works perfectly and let's you keep the original .exe.

There's no protection. The game just checks directory structure. Thats why there's a mini-image of only a few megs available. ;)

xmarsbarsx
28-03-2008, 21:38
yeah i know about the no cd things

ive finally made a copy of the DVD image, it comes complete with a full installer

however, there is one minor flaw in it

the EXE's dont have the icon files... so its just a white paper... i tried getting the MBII icon from b 19 but it always comes up blank

anyway, im uploading to something called Xdrive so i hope it will allow downloads... (its an AOL service... i hope it does what i need it to)

Movie Battles II team!!!!

http://files.filefront.com/Movie+Battles+II+RC1iso/;9928058;/fileinfo.html

It however only contains the core MBII files, i have asked FileFront to allow me to upload the full one, but the installer works! I would please like some of you to attempt to install it. I would really appreciate any feedback!

(I am going to upload an "expansion" pack, which would contain CMP and Movie Map Pack)
