The Battle for Wesnoth (http://www.wesnoth.org)

:p
http://iro.ragnarokonline.com/
I've never played it, but there's a free trial and I've heard some good things about this...
Xfire (http://www.xfire.com/xf/index.php)
daemon tools (http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/portal/index.php)
Fraps (http://www.fraps.com/)
no games , but they r very usefull for gamers :p
A word on ragnarok online: it gets way more interesting after switching to second job.
This also applies to lineage 2, but overall lineage 2 isn't very varied... (you'll probably fight using 3 skills tops...)
One thing i recommend in lineage 2 is making a light elf fighter and run exploriong the whole map, avoiding fights. The best thing in that game are the landscapes.
Well of Souls (http://www.synthetic-reality.com/wosHome.htm) (Standalone client)
Runescape (http://www.runescape.com/) (A lot of friends of mine play this, I don't. :))
I have quite a few old links somewhere of websites making full blown freeware games, which were mostly in progress, I'll have to check some out.
There was one website which featured ALL games (some retail productions too) but mostly the independant created online games. If anyone knows this website, I would really like to know it again. I'll keep searching. ;)
[Edit]
I've found it.

That website is great for searching. I found at least five games I enjoyed available on there.
www.moviebattles.com
I just checked it out; it looks like it has serious potential... all they gotta do is remove bunnyhopping and it'll be a bajillion times better ;)

Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.
A free game brought to you by the genious company behind Wolfeinstein, Wolf 3D, Doom and Commander Keen.
It revolves fully around siege-type gameplay.

my friends played the free trial of that game like 15 times he just keeps making up fake names and adresses :p but he said it was fun and hes pretty tough game critic
Just don't get traumatized when a peach kicks your ass. Actually that's part of the fun in RO.
IMO it's pretty fun for MMOG standards, if i could choose i'd have lineage 2 only with ragnarok online's gameplay.
dude i just played ragnarok and the graphics look like some kinda hybrid between final fantasy tactics and the legend of mana/secret of mana/sword of mana series AND I LOVE THE GRAPHICS IN THOSE GAMES :D :D :D
the test at the begining is kinda bogus tho
You can always skip it... but who would when you can get FREE FRUIT AND MILK! :P
If anybody wants to see the peach of DOOM go to Comodo then straight north (to Niffleheim) or up or whatever you wanna call it.
Ooo I thought of another one.
www.americasarmy.com
5 million dollar FPS multiplayer tactical shooter funded by the U.S army. About on a par with some 70 dollar FPS out there, like Ghost Recon. Note: It's very difficult, especially in Special Forces.

wow can we say "recruitment tool"
:p
Yeah LoL, but it's still fun, and I'm never going to join the army so I might as well milk your government.

horray for Canadas ability to mooch off America

It is very fun. For a free game, it's actually incredible, especially since you can control a paratrooping... thing completly and you don't just magically land perfectly like in any other game where you parachute out of a jet into the battlefield... which would be... hmmm... well, you can kinda do that in Battlefield 1942, but usually to save your life when your plane is going down... you can paratroop in it! I couldn't connect to the servers, so I uninstalled it, but I think I'll try again later, cause even the training was fun (especially parachute training, but not the fake one, the live jump was awesome). I think I was also discouraged by the Special Forces training because it was a good 10-30 minutes of lecturing and then a test. If you failed you got to hear the lecture again. I love the realism, but lectures take a lot out of me espeically when they're during MY spare time. I recommend this game tohugh, and if you can figure out how to get on their servers... then I envy you.
wow can we say "recruitment tool"
:p
Can we say "at least there's no draft"? so be happy it's just a free videogame that only encourages joining. I'm already willing to join, so a draft wouldn't phase me, although I doubt I will because it's not the first thing I want to do with my life.
the training is a tibit to what you'll experience when you enlist. its a popular game and they sell a guide book at most video game retail stores (comes with copy of game)
Yeah, they make you train before they let you play. It's a no noobs filter.
ah crap im to much of a slacker to listen to a 30 minute lecture then take a test and do all that training besides i always listen to music when i play video games so ill pry just tune out the lecture and bs it and hope im lucky :p
p.s. oh and ragnarok online had something like that which rly discourages me from making a new char and i wanna try like a lot of diffrent classes... lousy anti-noob/slacker games :p
Too lazy? It's not boring... you listen to some guy talk about the military and look at pictures of allied and enemy vehicles so you can determine differences and stuff. You also learn some cool stuff in the Medic Training that can be aplied to real life. It's really not that bad, but if you forget stuff and fail the test, it'd suck to listen to the WHOLE thing again. Besides, how would you feel if the government was making a game that was based purly on fun? (I'm serious, so don't say that'd be awesome) Tax money went into the making of that game, so it better have some kind of educational value.
