Anyone who knows who Sid Meier is, should be excited about this. The homepage is, http://www.atari.com/pirates/pirates/home.php , and I suggest anyone who doesn't know what Pirates is looks at the Features page and some of the previews and screenshots. Some of you may know that there was another Sid Meier Pirate adventure, I think there is one on computer, but also one on Sega Genesis, which I have on Emulator (anyone who wants the emulator and rom will either need to email me at yoohoorunner@gmail.com or send an AIM instant message to It Is Me Jacob. I have just uploaded some screenshots to compare old to new:

Dueling in Pirates! (Note other pirates fighting in the background, their death counts towards your total crew members. If one side is losing a lot of guys during battle, that side's commander will have less "energy" while dueling, or that's how it happened in Pirates Gold)

Naval Battle in Pirates (lots of new animations, like guys jumping overboard, better animation for sinking ships, people dying, supplies being lost, and damage is shown way better on the actual boat models)

Laying seige to a fort/town in Pirates! (couldn't get a screenshot of it in Pirates Gold cause I wasn't near any towns big enough to raid by land )

Towns and Forts can also be beseiged like in the Movie Pirates of the Carribean (by boat, crashing into the fort will cause your men to jump overboard and engage the fort with swrods) It's an AMAZING pirate sim, or at least the old one is, and Sid Meier is great a keeping his games amazing, innovative, and doesn't risk too much of the good stuff. I'm very psyched about this game, Armus now has the Sega version (I sent the rom and emulator to him on AIM) and I think a lot of you will like this game. There are a lot more new features, and more things to snap screenshots of in the old game, but I'll only get more if you all want more.
For those of you who don't like searching game websites for good previews or screens, I'll post direct links to both:

Yeah, i played Pirates Gold like crazy.
But im not sure if a classic game can be rereleased like that, i hope they updated the gameplay a bit without making it feel like a totaly different game.

Also: Poopdeck.

For ANY questions you have, I suggest, this (http://www.cutlassisle.com/forwarder.html?http://www.cutlassisle.com/misc/faq/08105800.shtml), it's a REALLY indepth FAQ, and that whole site, really is great, people should go there and join the message boards and ****. Their message boards are pretty awesome. You can buy stuff with gold you get from posts like ships and different weapons. And you should go there because the devs go to those boards and the FAQ gets updated every so often.
EDIT: that FAQ talks a lot about gameplay.

Yea, in case you didn't notice, you can actually see both crews fighting in the new one, whereas, in the old one, you just saw numbers represtenting both crews go down. O, and Dill Pickel, I had Sega Channel, good stuff, but I don't remember Pirates Gold from that... it's possible I got it after or there were just so many games I never got to that. Sega Channel was the ****, I played a bunch of games then that I try and get roms for now, like Altered Beast, lmao. "Rise from your grave."

yes sega channel ruled all. actually it was kind of like a cable modem now that i think about it. the rate of transfer of the games was pretty fast. the only problem was when it would d/c and piss me off for hours trying to fix it. they really need to bring that idea back into gaming. there were like 50 games on it a month and it catorgorized them all. and they always had cool menus and stuff to keep you busy. greatest idea ever, i wonder why they stoped the service? -edit- o ya i know the answer now

;)
