Anyone here a heavy flick-watcher? Well, I am. Aside from the general action/thriller movies, most of my fav. movies are dramas. Here's a few of them:
The Godfather
The Shawshank Redemption (the most inspirational movie I ever watched)
Good Will Hunting
Gladiator
Road to Perdition
Castaway
Hoosiers
CastAway is good. :)
It would take me a while to list all the movies I've enjoyed.
I mostly like movies that leave you thinking through and through out.

Yep it is good. I particularly enjoyed the artistry demonstrated by the scenes when he was on the island.

If you have Gladiator you must be crazy not to include Braveheart.
Aezeroth
22-10-2004, 22:23
I haven't seen Braveheart...the painted faces didn't appeal to me at first, what's it about?
_maPex_
22-10-2004, 22:27
Braveheart is Gladiator except about 1200 years later. Watch it and you will understand what I mean. If I try to praise Braveheart I will only be insulting it because the movie is much greater than anything words could describe. The same goes for Gladiator.

What about the plot?
1st movie of all time: Requiem for a Dream
and then goes:
Donnie Darko
The Butterfly Effect
and ofcourse Fight Club (dont watch it as a simple action-jackson-karate-sex-all-these-hollywood movies ;))
The Butterfly Effect
and ofcourse Fight Club (dont watch it as a simple action-jackson-karate-sex-all-these-hollywood movies ;))Agreed, even if i don't agree with his last choice in the Butterfly Effect. But i guess that's what USA people like... oh well.

well, you have to admit that Butterfly Effect was interesting in some point of view. Havent you ever thought that you can go back and do something different?
I think I'll check out a few of these movies.
I have seen a few mentioned here, but not all.
Butterfly Effect was not a bad movie, but Donnie Darko was definitely better in comparison IMO.
Since this is a universal movies thread, what is the worst film you have seen?
Try to keep it civil, and remember... it is only a movie. :p

Donnie Darko was just a 'woooooh, look! weird sh!t is happening! DEEEEEEEP' movie. Plus the dude annoyed me (not THE dude, i mean the main character)
Butterfly was so full of plotholes and crazy ass acting that i kinda lost focus while watching.
Fight Club, however, Is a fine, fine, fine movie.
I dont like saying wich is best and wich comes second, but in the area of 'movies that leave you thinking' Fight Club's number 1.

The worst movie? I'll have to say any stupid teen movie, like Cruel Intentions.
_maPex_
23-10-2004, 04:15
Cruel Intentions was the sh*t man! SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR WAS SO HOT. Anyway, I think Blade Runner wasn't too great a movie. The Usual Suspects (OMFG THE TWO TWISTS AT THE END) and Boondock Saints are great action/humor movies w/ messages send to the audience to get you thinking.
Aezeroth
23-10-2004, 04:28
Here's the sh*t list for movies, in no particular order:
Resident Evil
Resident Evil 2
Bring it On
Cruel Intentions
Deep Blue Sea
Anaconda (the one with Jennifer Lopez)
Armaggeddon
Batman and Robin
Aliens vs Predator
The Score
the stupid Pokemon movies
Speed 2
Demolition Man
Feel free to add more.

SPIDER MAN ... it sucked bad .. well mj was hot .. but u know
Since this is a universal movies thread, what is the worst film you have seen?
Worst movie I have seen is definitely Gigli (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0299930/). I knew it was said to be one of the worst movies ever. And that was the reason I wanted to see it ^_^
But I never imagined it could be really that bad. You know when the movie is bad enough it becomes actually funny... and it isn't anymore that bad. But this movie just was so bad that it wasn't even funny. I laughed only few times because there was few really really stupid situations... But it was so boring. There was some 30 second scenes where no-one said anything... only Lopez and Affleck watching each other or just sitting. Yes it was most boring film ever.
Plot outline (from imdb): "A lowly thug falls in love with the lesbian who is sent to oversee his abduction job."
Well best movies... There are many of them. I won't say them now :) Let's see If I list some of them here some day..
When we are talking about the worst movie...
Why didnt anyone mention Cutthroat Island?
I think the worst movies are listed here: http://www.imdb.com/chart/bottom
(Gotta agree with the IMDb goodness)
Lawnmower Man sequels: definetely terrible.
Every store I visit literally have copies for under a £ or are throwing copies of the video at customers... *shudders*

well, you have to admit that Butterfly Effect was interesting in some point of view. Havent you ever thought that you can go back and do something different?I meant i don't agree with the life he chose at the end :P
Has anybody seen Delicatessen?
And why hasn't anybody said anything about LotR yet? :P
Aezeroth
23-10-2004, 15:22
LOTR...I still don't like that movie. It tries so hard to draw suspense from the fact that the bad guys outnumber the good guys 10:1, but the good guys always end up winning cause Legolas and Aragorn can own 90% of the whole Orc army.
Poor Gimli... he kills more orcs than Legolas in the books...

nah, i think the worst movies ever are the Three Ninjas sequel.
in second place comes the Home Alone sequel :p.

WTF are you talking about? Three Ninjas was awesome when I was younger. So was the sequel. I know its unrealistic but its only a damn PG rated movie meant for kids to enjoy.

Everyone knows the White Ranger was the real deal.

Let's get back to the movie talk...what's the scariest movie you ever watched?
_maPex_
25-10-2004, 06:14
Don't know of any scary movies that are actually scary. I never had a nightmare due to a scary movie in my life. The only reason horror movies are scary is because the quick flashes of faces and the sounds that build up to scary images make you jump - they unexpected and b/c of instinct and your nerves you fly outta yer seat. If you mean scary as in like it affected you so you'd be paranoid after the movie, there's no such thing that has that effect on me.
I think the scariest movie I seen was Scary Movie (the original) b/c I was laughing so hard I thought I was going to die from my stomach exploding (no seriously, I am not kidding around. I was suffocating and choking and my stomach felt like it has three swords stuck into it)
Dill Pickle

Nope. I like Dark Castle's productions (House on Haunted Hill got me hooked), but I wouldn't even watch a Halle Berry movie with my eyes closed. :p

You should check out the website (http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/thegrudge/) - if you have not already.
To me, it says:
The Ring: Revisited.
Subtitle: Another Asian Movie Remade.
Everyone who I've spoken to who visited the website didn't find it scary at all, yet I have seen discussion on boards that the website is freaky.
I'll probably watch the the original/s first before seeing the remake.
But I'm trying to keep open minded about it.
Dill Pickle
25-10-2004, 18:27

Aezeroth
31-10-2004, 02:21
dee, honestly, that's a very dumb thing to say. Jurassic Park was a great movie, and I'll assure you - AVP is horrible. I saw it a few months ago and you can trust me when I say it is bad. The movie targets the Aliens as evil and bloodthirsty but makes the Predators to be noble warriors. If I recall the Predator in the original movie, they are nothing like that. At the end of the movie, I really thought that the Predator was gonna kiss the female heroine.
Chroniktoke

I find them really corny. In a totally not-funny way.
But screaming "DEATH!" like a monkey that inhaled 6 pounds of sugar just before going into battle is pretty cool.
The Times When Theoden Leads His Cavalry Into Battle
yeah the charge of the Rohirim is a fantastic scene

Shrek1 was original, witty, and very funny.
Shrek2 was like the first only without the originality, wit and humor. And they added a truckload of drama.
And not the good kind of drama, i mean the 'chick-flick' kind.
They might aswell had a robotic scissor-arm come out of the screen and cut my testicles off.
Good movie: American Beauty.
Just like FightClub it gives you that 'I dont give a ****, im just gonna have fun!' feeling.
Plus there's boobs in it.
Twice.

Ah, I see.
If any of you really want to see a powerful drama, go out and rent the Shawshank Redemption. It will definitely change your life (in a good way).
yeah the charge of the Rohirim is a fantastic scene
Every time I watch that scene it gives me goosebumps. I truly think its one of the best pieces of acting and drama ever put on film.
I really liked shrek 2. I thought the first wasnt really that funny. It was like they assumed it was funny due to the setting, and didnt bother with jokes all that much. The second is a laugh a minute though.
As for avp. As I said, paul anderson has never made a good movie, and never will. He'll just go on ruining promising licenses by throwing pg13 pitches at studios.

But it was awesome anyway because it had exploding corpses (something that never quite redeemed his other movies the way it did MK1)
Mortal kombat was fun for 3 reasons and 3 reasons only:
Sub zero
Scorpion
Reptile
All 3 of which he managed to bitchslap into uselessness within 5 minutes.
He also did Resident Evil, which is another horrible, horrible movie.
Promising license + paul anderson = omg suxor.
To be honest its this guy I feel the most sorry for
http://www.hvrsd.k12.nj.us/Timberlane/students/BJ/images/020.jpg
He keeps signing on to these terrible movies and getting slaughtered in pointless and horrible ways within the first 20 minutes. The tragic part is he's actually a very good actor, and if he were given more than just a gory death in the script he could well elevate andersons movies beyond their normal level of crappiness.

Yea, that scene with the computer going into spaz mode was dumb. And then half the "Special Ops" team got chopped into bits.

GL has said something like "If i´d had enough free time and a hammer, I would smash every copy of SW Holiday Special"

Nope, I haven't seen it neither.
It sounds like a Disney sing-a-long in the Mos Eisley cantina.
It happens on Kashyyk! AND IT OWNZORZ!! (If your brains are damaged, in other cases...)

Damn....what happened to this thread?
Well, back to topic. There's a hell lot of good cartoon movies out right now. Namely, the Incredibles (haven't seen) and Polar Express. I saw Polar Express yesterday and it was a fun little movie that brought back some fond childhood Christmas memories. I also heard the Incredibles were real good, any of you seen it yet?

Well, from what I've heard it's amazing. www.rottentomatoes.com gave it a 97% rating!

This thread also needs some serious uppers. I heard Coach Carter is a damn good basketball movie, I might as well go see that.
Edit: But then again, any movie starring a singer who really can't sing at all is suspect.

Oh and if anyone hasn't seen Closer, go see that RIGHT NOW. The movie had really changed my perception of Natalie Portman being a little girl.

A really good somewhat thrilling movie is Collateral. Tom Cruise. Bad Guy.
Its about a black cab driver, who has a very bad night... very bad.
Its really a pretty good movie - Tom Cruise didn't seem like Tom Cruise, You Kind of forget who he was and see him as a Real Character.
Bah! Hardly any of you talk about the classics! The oldies! Before Hollywood became the craphole it is today. Like just recently, I watched It's a Mad Mad world. Sad thing is, I bet most of you haven't even heard of the thing!
What about all the Monty Phyton movies? Holy Grail, Life of Brian, The Meaning of Life...

I do enjoy the oldies. Of my favorites are: Citizen Kane, The Godfather, Scarface. I also enjoy old-time caper movies like Bonnie and Clyde and other Robert Redford movies.
Anybody seen Azumi? Gotta love slaughters involving katanas.

Nope, never seen that movie before. I generally only watch movies that are mainstream.

Braveheart is Gladiator except about 1200 years later. Watch it and you will understand what I mean. If I try to praise Braveheart I will only be insulting it because the movie is much greater than anything words could describe. The same goes for Gladiator.
scottish warrior/ soldier, rebellionist
its about mel gibson with long hair and a badass motivation , his name was Scott Wallace and they used a war between the Scottish and Great Britian that was dated in history. Good two-tape movie.
i recommend old school horror films like, evil dead ( 1 and 2 and army of darkness), hellraiser (1-bloodline), nightmare on elm streets (1-Freddy vs. Jason) , and a lot more but dont feel like thinking up all 1 thousand of my favs :)
