I didn't know where to put this thread (which category) but I wanted to know where I could post any contributions I have to the mod. For example, I noticed that most people use jango or boba models for Mandalorian because:
1) Red/Green-Yellow/Orange skins arent too attractive
2) The Blue Manda lacks an icon so no1 knows they can select it
3) Jango and Boba skins are phat
I have made a new Mandalorian skin - blue and gold - and I wanted to incorporate it as mbmandy/mbg. Currently, I have it replace the green-yellow Manda as I don't see too many people use it over the other skins so I can see a badass skin whereas others have to suffer by my lemon-lime colors. I just want to know if this could be accepted and then coded into the mod (that is, if MB2 doesn't use a modellist.txt like ForceMod3 does) and if so where to post it. That's all, thanks.
*EDIT*
Link to download Blue & Gold Mandalorian Skin replacement is:

So basicly:
You want your own personal skin in MB2.
right? ;)

Thanks for simplifying my post, Chairwalker. I was just trying to give an argument as to why a random Manda skin should be added instead of having the word 'NO' said to me without letting me give my reason as to why to add it to the game.
Anyway, here's some screenies.

I like it maybe just relise the client file.
and if u update it make the Yellow less green.

The gold is more gold in game. MS Paint dimmed the images for whatever reason (I was too lazy to wait 2 minz for photoshop to load). Even then I don't see what you mean by green.
Last thing...client file? What do you mean?

I just missed the 200KB limit on zip files by 40KB. Will post a link to a hosted download...
Replacement for green-yellow Mandalorian Skin (http://m4p3x.tripod.com)
Look up alpha and reflective shader techniques. It would accentuate the gold. And really add to the skin. Don't know why more people don't take advantage of shaders.

Keshire, simply put I don't know sh*t and this is my first skin. I'll look into it and hopefully it'll give the gold some sexy reflective qualities.
*EDIT*
Previous link file has been updated to include shader file
The best place to start is to take a look at the models and vehicles that are already reflective. Also, some levels have reflective surfaces.
the .shader files are just text files so you don't need any special software.
Also, look up shader commands bible on google.
Shaders are the difference between an "ok" skin and an "excellent" skin.

Awww, how thoughtful of you Mapex. You made me a Mandalorian with the same colors that I have in my name. :D

22-10-2004, 13:06
Quiet, Davik. Mapex doesn't take sh*t, not even from his contractors. You just keep feeding me credits and I'll leave you be. Otherwise, I may as well put a bounty on your head and then claim the bounty just for fun.
Eh, can't download the file.
You should attach it to your first post instead or use another provider.
Freeservers don't like remote linking without the file being on a page.

Yeah I figured that out in the last few hours. Even then it don't want to download for me. You can try http://mapex.gq.nu/ then click the link but it still fails cuz freeservers went to sh*t. I can't post a zip file over 200 KB here and mine is 240KB so I need to host it...I need a good free webspace host who lets me use FTP access - you got any suggestions?

Hmm. Most free webspace providers don't allow third party linking as it drains their bandwidth without giving them any benefit (i.e. people viewing adds).
I can raise the upload limit for ZIPs to 250 KB if that's any help for you.

Damn I miss the old days where 50megs never gave a damn - you could even disable their banner ad's and they'd never notice. Oh well. Cerberus I don't want you having to change something just for me but I can't really get this file hosted anywhere. I even tried linking the dload on a html file in my freeservers website but it still fails (which doesn't make sense).

It's not that much of a big deal...
Probably the download only works if someone entered the page via your website's index - if you link to the download page directly, the referrer probably still doesn't have the expected value. You could try Tripod (http://tripod.co.uk) - also doesn't support offsite linking but at least people can download the file if you link to the download page directly afaik...
Dont touch the green-yellow manda or I will shut my Inn down completely and cancel the tournament!

It works! It's really cool but if you want ultimate cool, darken the blue and make the yellow have more of a gold appearance.
_maPex_
23-10-2004, 04:13
Davik, you are two steps behind me :D
I am in the process of trying to darken the blue to be closer to the mbf blue color as well as making gold not piss yellow but actually colored like pirate's gold. I am a newb and this is impossible for me so I might have to use some special photoshop techniques which I have to learn.

Anyway. I think that some people might not want to use the green skin. to replaise this.
so i made a file that contains pk3's that allow u IF you've downloaded Mapex's file for every Mando skin.
Its attached (and its tiny) BUT U NEED MAPEX"S FIRST SKIN FOR THESE TO WORK AND I GIVE NO GERANTY OF ANYTHING WITH THESE IMPLIED OR REAL.

Do you know how I could make the yellow more gold and use a shader to make the gold reflective like the Jango Fett skin?
=Profcorron=
23-10-2004, 10:18
try this site for some sabers with shaders (some are made by keshire.)
http://jk3hilts.evilzz.net/42.html has a sort of nice shader.
http://jk3hilts.evilzz.net/41.html as this one has
http://jk3hilts.evilzz.net/88.html this one too
_maPex_
23-10-2004, 12:59
*EDIT*Profcorron, that 3rd saber hilt is just a gradient, not a shader based gold-reflection.
I forgot to check back on the forums before making my new version but in any rate I used shaders very well for a total newb. My second skin has been completed and checked out by me. http://m4p3x.tripod.com yet again. I have links to dload a replacement for each of the first 5 MBMandy skins for my new version - the old version is as it was before. Two screenies are up, showing the two different versions but here's a few more:

I had to double post to be annoying b/c I feel like being annoying right now...
You guys impressed yet? I know someone is awake at....11 AM to 12PM england time.
It looks better, but isn't it a bit too bright? You could try using a brownish yellow with the same shader...
_maPex_
23-10-2004, 15:51
Again I think that has to do with saving a jpg with MS Paint (didnt feel like waiting for photosohp to load). In game for me it doesnt look bright at all.
=DavikKang=
23-10-2004, 23:18
Looks a lot better, but if you are going for pirates' gold color, you might want to deepen the yellow. The reason it looks bright is because the yellow is rather faint.
_maPex_
24-10-2004, 00:46
Currently doing the following:
-Lightening blue around the visor to discern the black visor from the blue outline.
-Making the gold not too yellow by adding some tint to it
-Kicking a$$ on the servers with my skin
By the way, if you guys who know how to view files inside pk3 (aka, the people who arent noobs), look at holster.jpg and holsterred.jpg in mbmandy folder. I want to know how to paint over a picture while retaining the texture. Holsterred has a red outline all over the holster image but the texture under the red outline is still there.
Well there's the colorize feature in PSP, not sure you mean that... and you're limited to 1 color, so you'll probably have to cut'n'paste several times.
Freehand drawing tool and colour balance, PSP style. :p

I made the yellow more vivid (I think this backfired and made the armor much brighter) and the blue clothing less dark (also I think this backfired and made it too bright, but maybe not as bad as the gold).
Here's some new screenies:
_maPex_
24-10-2004, 03:06
I made some newer gold. Tints of red and made it really dark. Check this out:
NOTE
the 3rd screenshot is rather bright because its under a big floodlight. I think this is a property of gold (its very reflective) that I cannot bypass unless I make it purely brown armor (which would look like crap, literally).
_maPex_
24-10-2004, 10:27
Deleted previous two screenshot posts. Released a newer version of my skin on my website. Basically, I noticed a pattern that everytime I thought the gold was too bright I kept adding darkness, which made it duller, but ALSO I kept adding tints of red, which brightened it up a tiny bit, nullifying some of the darkness effect, but also made the gold look copper/bronze. Starting a fresh with the armor, I took the original gold textures and darkened them a few times and now I think I have something going. The only thing that seems to need work right now is maybe the clothing (too bright??) and also the jetpack/wrist bracers/flamegauntlet.
Here are some screenshots showing the transition phase of my skinning. First gold is yellower than normal gold and very bright. Second is a tiny bit duller and more bronzeish. Third is very much like bronze. Fourth is what I have now, up for download at my website, and seems to be looking very nice. http://m4p3x.tripod.com for all downloads.
P.S. CerberuS, since I am now using 2 megabyte tga files my filesize has gotten larger to 500KB (with pk3/zip compression) so don't worry about putting more space on attached-to-post zip files.
I like how the last one looks.
=DavikKang=
24-10-2004, 22:07
I got the lastest one and it has some problem where you can't see anything but the jetpack, gauntlets, and his holsters.

I don't know what the trouble could be except for missing lines in the skin files. The skin files look fine so it might be that you did not:
1) Delete the first version (version 0.1 with the blue and yellow manda w/o any reflective armor)
2) Download the CORE files
It looks pretty good. Nice work.

Got it to work and I really like it. I think you are already working on it, but the blue is just a TAD to bright.

If Davik gets his name colors, I'm going to have to make a purple and white Mand.
...Now, how to do that without making it look retarded....

LoL, maybe if yo make it invisible like Mapex's when I messed up installing it. All you could see was the guns, holsters, and the gauntlets. It was actually pretty cool, but I had to be careful to not shoot mapex in the head since I couldn't see it. Or was it I had a hard time shooting him in the head....
