View Full Version : GL intended boba fett to live?

Short post, due to the fact that it's extremely late here. I'm watching the new DVD's with the audio commentary, and here i quote George Lucas himself on boba fett, on the sarlacc scene.

I had contemplated putting that extra shot in where he climbs out of the hole, but it doesn't quite fit in the end.

Basically all I understood from that was GL was saying it wouldn't make sense to have Boba climb out at the end and then have him doing nothing. The whole purpose of ROTJ was the "Return of the Jedi" aka the fall of the Empire and the bringing back of the Jedi Order. Boba Fett coming out would have been a thorn in this Return of the Jedi plan and, were Lucas meant to make episodes 7 to 9, Boba would be better off coming out of the sarlacc in a later episode (aka the games which take place after ROTJ times).

...If you do not know the Mandalorian with green red and white armor, yellow cape, and all of it rusted, you should remove all your links to the Star Wars universe. The only Manda left after Jango Fett died was Boba Fett. He fell into a sarlacc, got himself out, and is now in eveything post ROTJ including JK2/3.

theres something you or i dont understand: originally, boba was supposed to die (in 1st edition of ROTJ, what was realeased in early 80's, 1983 i think). How can he show up in games if he died in original movie?

this is from SW databank:
Solo, free of the carbonite and suffering blindness from hibernation sickness, wildly swung a vibro-ax into an inattentive Fett's rocketpack. The pack activated, and the bounty hunter soared into the air, out of control. The airborne Fett slammed into the side of Jabba's sail barge before tumbling into the Sarlacc's mouth. With a sickly belch from the desert creature, it seemed as if Fett's career as the galaxy's most notorious bounty hunter was brought to an end.

Go back to starwars.com databank and click the EU tab up top. He TD'd and used his blaster from the inside of the Sarlacc to kill it, then climbed out with his armor in pieces. Naturally, he being Boba Fett, was able to somehow retain his reputation as the best bountyhunter in the galaxy while somehow regaining his Mandalorian armor. In ROTJ they didn't say BOBA DIES. They just showed him get sucked into the Sarlacc. C3PO says something like: "The Sarlacc keeps you alive but digests you over a thousand years. It is a slow and painful death.". Boba's armor was burnt by these corrosive acids, but that kept Boba's flesh in tact. He wasn't dead right after falling into the Sarlacc because he was supposed to be alive for the rest of his lifetime while still being digested by the Sarlacc. He used his lifespan to his advantage to help himself get out of that hole.

And don't forget that other bounty hunter that rescued him. You know, the one with the bandage around his head from a speeder accident. Dengar was his name.

The Boba in Jk3 is probably some ex-clone who made his armor out of cardboard and stole a rockettrooper's jetpack...

I think Boba was intended to be dead but everyone decided later he was just too cool to die, so they brought him back to keep the franchise alive.

It's just funny how Boba Fett is made to be the most dangerous bounty hunter in the galaxy then he gets kicked in the ass by Luke and trips into the Sarlacc pit.

That's because Lucas is a fruitcake and hates villains. He killed Jango Fett off very easily too. Jango only killed one Jedi in all of Episode2 that we saw when, if he's such a feared BH, should have helped kill many more. Boba didn't get to do anything in Ep5 to Ep6 except fall into a Sarlacc pit by a blind Han recovering from cold-sickness or whatever. Damn Lucas.

Lucas could have at least let Boba die fighting. The way he died was so bullsh*t.

JK2 and JK3 take place quite a bit after RoTJ actually... so the Manda in SP IS Boba Fett.

That's all EU really...plus, I wouldn't consider JK3 storyline to be truthful to the movies.

JK3 beats that vong garbage (even if it wasn't even that great). I don't want Jacen back I want the next JK to be Kyle Katarn again.

*ADDITION*

Exactly. I only saw Ep4-6 for the first time this summer (it was KOTOR that got me into Star Wars in the first place) and I thought Boba Fett fought some Jedi (I remember when I was younger I saw my friend playing as Dash Rendar in Shadows of the Empire and having to fight Boba Fett). I thought Boba would fight Luke and either be defeated or make a getaway like Jango did. I also thought when Yoda and Obi-Wan were talking and said 'There is one other [who could be a Jedi]' they were talking about Katarn, not Leia.

*SPOILER*

If you read 'tales of the bounty hunters' it has stories about each of the bounty hunters and what happened to them after being given the contract to capture the Falcon. Dengar, the bandaged guy, had a grudge against Solo from a swoop bike accident when they raced in there youth. This nearly killed him but imperial surgeons saved him, whilst also making him a crack imperial assassin. Dengar is the one who saves Fett after he climbs out. Sadly who ever wrote the story has dengar getting married to some psychic dancer with Fett being his best man. Fetts story tells us about his Cancer, caused by the sarlaac juices, and his general bad health after that experience. Fett is very old in his story (for a bounty hunter) and is still trying to get Solo. He has spare armour in Slave1 but also aquires a suit from the impersonator Jodo Kast, who does lots of things that give Fett a bad name - so he kills him.
As a representation of how lacking Fetts skills are getting whilst trying to kill Solo he misses and kills the politician he is talking too.
Whether you believe any of this is upo to you as it is technically EU.

Don't forget the Slave 2, the modified pursuer gunship like the one in X-Wing Alliance. If there is a Slave 1, does't that Imply there is a Slave 2?

BTW: Boba was one of the coolest guys in Star Wars, yet he never really did anything in the movies other than fall off the skiff. It could have been so much better. He could have killed Chewie or something. :D

No, jango killed the people who made them and stole the very last one from the prison colony that made them.

I remember that from Star Wars: Bounty Hunter on gamecube  One of the few reasons I even have a Gamecube anymore.

Ya, I just sold my GameCube because it isn't very good. I'll stick to old Xbox and Xbox Live :D Of course, I'll be gettin the second Xbox when it comes out (so far, it is called Xenon, as I can tell).

Anyway, back on topic, Boba was a bad guy. I don't like bad guys. There fore Boba will die. However, I do agree he died a bit rashly. Of course, he was able to shoot missle launchers at a poor helpless jedi Padawan in JA (if any of us actually remember what single player was :p ). So, I'm guessing were gonna see Boba again.

Yeah Boba got a bum treatment like Darth Maul. They both pretty much looked cool, didn't say much of anything, then fell in a hole and died.
I wish Darth Maul got to do a little more. He had so much potential.

At least Darth Maul had two fight scenes (the second being the longest and coolest duel ever) and he killed one of the main characters. Boba - loses his blaster, ties up luke, then falls into sarlacc.

Both deserved more screen time. **** Dooku he's a newb. I wanted to see Maul slay Qui-Gon and then somehow the fight broke apart so Maul could return in Ep2. Maul is my 2nd favorite Sith of all time, 1st favorite in the movies. Ray Park as ACiDuS says all over the place was the one who choreographed that Duel of the Fates and is to be given credit for upping the standard for Star Wars saberfighting.

In the game "Bounty Hunter" He Gets his ship from Oubo* 4, And the point in it being called "slave 1" is simply because there us more then just "1" They are ships to retreve Fellens, This is what jango stole...

im pretty sure that the comment that GL made about boba escaping was mearly to point out that he quite easily could make tiny changes that would allow certain EU stories to "exist" such as showing boba escape and making a 1000 fanboys wet themselves

but then the fact that he didnt shows that hed rather make them all suffer
which i think is damn funny
