Favorite Saber Duel?

I thought that the 2nd round of luke VS vader was the best, closly followed by obi and quigon vs maul

yeah i found it hard to choose which outta 2nd luke v vader and episode 1s duel..episode one had the better moves but luke v vader was just cool
like when luke goes "nooooo" and then he and vader fight in one long tracking shot it looks great

Ray park (Maul) brought new life to jedi by choreographing that fight and redefined what we expected from jedi. He raised the bar so high episode 2 was a pale comparison, even though its lightsaber battles were better than the original trilogy.

Obi-Wan, like Yoda in ROTJ, gave into the Force. Obi-Wan wasn't slain but instead raised his saber high (like in red stance) closed his eyes and concentrated on giving his soul to the Force. Vader, if you remember, took the swing but wondered where the **** Obi-Wan went. He looks around in the robe and didn't know what to do. Obi-Wan only became a holocron-thingie b/c he gave into the Force as opposed to die (Qui-Gon Jinn died as opposed to give into the Force so he couldnt be a holocron mentor)

True that, brotha. Maul was my 2nd favorite Sith (after Revan and right before Malak) and that saber fight was the best I have seen. This should have been more of a 'best duel' poll to include ObiWan vs Jango, the only Jedi vs merc duel in the series as of yet. Anyway, the threeway duel was the best because it was the first to include a new weapon (staff), a Jedi actually died for once (ep4/5/6/2 no jedi or sith die in duels), and saber fighting was upped to an extreme. I believe b/c GL can't really direct sabering the sabering in Ep2 was not nearly as good as what it could have been.

However, Kit Fisto and Dooku's unique styles of sabering in Ep2 was creative - it may be in part b/c GL can't direct sabering but if you think about it having some individuality due to handling a weapon differently is a creative idea. Kit Fisto hacked at blaster bolts to parry them and well he had a weird but cool style. Dooku used the old style of saber vs saber fighting as opposed to saber vs gunner, which was superior to Obi-Wan's and Anakin's new-style.

But that's going into a new topic. Simply put, the duel in Ep1 owned and I wish I was Maul if I can't be Jango Fett...

Anyone remember how it started? Qui-Gon said to Padme "We'll take care of this" and the Nabooan soldiers went away and Obi and Qui were left with Maul. I wish gunners in MB2 did the same if a Jedi said that to them (I miss b15 in that sense).

Has to be the duel on Cloud City, meaning that it shows the power of Darth Vader, it's just this dark thing... And it makes a clever use of terrain (Exhaust pipes, throwing objects).... suprising your foe from a corner... Allthough it looks clumsy at some point (Vader reaching to strike Luke on the bridge), ... it's real swordfighting.

And Luke can't just rage for his victory like in Return of The Jedi, it was quite even, if you don't include Vader throwing objects... }:P

But the Duel of The Fates comes very close, meaning Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan vs. Maul, it's real fast, and we see Obi-Wan doing DFA (The yellow special) few times, for example exactly in the beginning of the duel. Also we see Maul doing some side butterflies ;)

Luke Vs Vader on CC and Deathstar were, by far, the best lightsaber duels. I voted for Deathstar because there's more thought and emotion as well as more things at stake and more tension. Luke was battling for the Rebels, Luke was battling for himself, Luke was battling for his father. Luke was also trying to keep himself from slipping to the darkside whilst fighting for all this. Vader was fighting against these things and playing with Luke's head such as bringing up his sister. Then the Emperor started zappin Luke and Vader threw him in the pit. Things like that make the old movies far superior to the new. Just because the Episode I duel was flashier (and 3rd best IMO) doesn't mean it was better. I saw previews for Episode III Anikin vs Obi and I think that one has a lot of elements from the old movies. I think Episode III will actually be good, although a lot of people are just pessimistic SOBs that base their opinions on Episode I and II (great movies, but not when compared to IV-VI). I know George Lucas has hit a slump in his movies, but I think Episode III will be hard to mess up, and all Lucas has to go now, with Star WArs, is up. :cool:

I really liked the Dooku fight...but it was too short cause he whooped both of them Jedi. It'd really suck if Dooku got killed off early in EP3 cause he owned Anakin in their first meeting.

Oh and you forgot Yoda vs Dooku.

Bah, I don't mess with the classics I say :cool: Vader Vs Obi One I found to be the best sabercombat tbh, since this lead to him "becoming more powerfull then ever". I remember whiping away a tear when I first saw that combat tbh (I was only 6 at the time though :p ). To me, it's still the best one. Though Qui Gon and Obi One Vs Maul is a close second ;)

fact is back in those days lucas did the best job that could have been done.
All movies made were setup for one climax ,father vs. son, and on the deathstar it was great to see that the dark side was in fact in lukes blood also.Beautiful fight................Luke obviously beat him through the dark-side.But this poll is quite irrational if you read the script to episode iii (if u can find it) then you will find that there is a 10 minute long battle between obi and anikan on a lava planet.Lets wait until ep 3 :)

I didn't think it was bad, better than Anakin vs Dooku. I think there was a full 5 seconds that Anakin had his arm out before Dooku chopped it off.I've watched that in slow motion.... he moves the arm himself, Dooku doesn't "push" his sword to the side or anything, he just takes a sort of crucified pose and Dooku cuts his arm. When Luke cuts Vader's hand you can see him striking Vader's sword to get it out of the way then cutting the hand at least.
