Hey - inbetween working on mb maps, I managed to get my hands on the new Star Wars DVD's - I have been scaning through them finding all the little changes take a look at the new improved shot with the right actor...

and yes this is in the new Jedi - its not a rumour!!
i havent bought it yet but i believe at the end of jedi there is a shot of naboo celebrating and stuff and theres a gungun on top of a building shouting "Wesa free!" :mad:
and also the rancor has been cleaned up as have the lightsaber effects and stuff
many other changes i cant remember, lucas really should leave his work alone

Is that gungan thing true? Oh no... Why Lucas why? It was annoying enough that Lucas changed that famous scene in NH (Han in that bar, Han doesn't shoot first) earlier. Maybe the most annoying change before. But if that gungan thing is true... I maybe have to change the most annoying scene.
Is it so hard to leave it alone, Lucas?

well it's more accurate now that they took Hayden Christiansen for the ending scene but ... he's way too young.
Look at Obi wan he's supposed to be about 10 years older than Anakin, not 40.

In my opinion Anakin was acting like a snotty punk from the moment he went onscreen, so he was evil from the start.
So according to lucas' logic, the scene should have a vader baby.

I just bought the DVD set, and finished watching Episode IV just now! The image quality is great, the sound is a bit confusing (if you listen carefully, the quality of the voices really change every scene, from the old movie soundtrack to new crisp 128khz studio material, what's the deal?), and the things they altered are pretty good (like the longer Death Star corridors or the Aurabesh pannels). The Jabba scene is better now, although I don't think it really adds to the movie. Greedo still shoots first, but the scene is way better now.

For some reason it took away a lot of the ''believablility'' of dat scene. It was all serious and shocking, with Vader's claim and all, and suddenly u hear a great Jedi scream like a bitch...

Luke's scream in the 1997 edition was actually the Emperor's scream from RotJ. I just finished watching The Empire Strikes Back on DVD - it's incredible. And there's quite a revelation in the new version regarding Vader's secret...

I hate these new editions for one reason now. Boba Fett has been changed into a goddamn australian.
Actually the Rancor scenes have been cleared up a hell of a lot - in the original version the black mat line was clearly visible when looking at both the rancors legs and luke - now as the have recomposited the shots together using a computer the mat lines have gone. It’s on a documentary somewhere I saw with comparison images - I will look up the link.
The scream referred to is the one when Luke falls down the huge pit towards the end of empire...

ok, will there be an untouched trilogy on DVD for me? I think it's retarded that they "sharpened it" and whatnot. The only acceptable change for me would be to remove the bos around tie fighters where the background is lighter. Those basterds >_<

no it was his fathers saber (Anakin aka Vader)
and it was a real saber , the same saber when he fought Vader in Bespin

well to be honest ive seen the differnce between the the old versions and the new and i must admit that the picture quality is a hell of alot better than the older ones plus it looks to be more on a larger scale. one example is on ANH han solo is chasing some storm troopers on the death star in the old version they turn around and there is only a few but in the newer version its a hall full of stormtroopers its that and other little things that go unnoticed.
I noticed them, I just didnt see the point. Its a movie not a piece of software. Movies should be left as they are, rather than 'patched' multiple times. The original editions are miles better than their soulless remakes.
Well improving image quality isn't bad imo, but when you start to add/remove/scenes you're changing the movie itself... that's hardly good. (except the extended editions of the lotr movies, and even then you can still buy the movie as you first saw it)
I think the point needs to be made that - had Lucas had the technology available to him at the time he would probably have included all of the bits he had added since in his original movies.
After all he has always said that he "wanted to do this, and wanted to do that" with the first films, as I say IMO any changes that move the movies closer to his original vision are worth while, (although the untouched version on DVD also? now that would have been a bonus)

Its becoming more and more evident that his original vision was crap, and the lack of budget and technology reigned in his more eccentric ideas and the movies benefited as a result.
The original editions are miles better than their soulless remakes.
Oh give me a break. I mean, please. I watched all three movies. That's 360 minutes. The added / edited parts take up about a total of 5. Soulless remakes? I seriously think you're overreacting.
Its not just the changes he has made this time.. but also the ones he made with the 'old new' editions. And I'm sure there'll be a few more on the way in a year or two knowing lucas.
The movies were fine as they were. They didnt need changing. All the additions and changes are not needed and do nothing but distract attention from the flow of the film and ruin classic scenes. You're trying to watch starwars whilst playing wheres waldo at the same time!
like the scene on hoth where luke is being stalked by the monster in the cave. In the original versions it was total suspense and very well done.. but then lucas makes it look like the thing is 10 foot away, watching everything he's doing and the entire scene is worse by a long way.
Or the scene with jabba the hutt in episode 4. That scene practically recites what greedo says word for word. It is not needed.
Making boba into an australian? Not needed.
Bunch of bugs flying around dagobar? Not needed.
Dewbacks on tatooine? Not needed.
Stupid robots and comedy sequences in mos eisley? Not needed.
Song and dance routine in the palace? Not needed.

Lightsabers colour are dictated by the crystal they are made with, you cannot change its colour by 'tuning' it.

He said, Luke's saber was Anakin's blue saber. On the Falcon, when Luke was training against the probe droid, he was using Obi-Wan's saber because Obi-Wan tuned his saber so if Luke dropped the saber (lets say he got hit by the droid and felt a sting that made him drop the saber like a little girl), the saber wouldnt cut thru the floor or slice off anyone's legs. Luke's saber was always on his belt during the Falcon scene. On Hoth, Luke has his own saber which is the blue-colored one his father owned.
Anakin's saber was blue, Obi's was green. Now some people might ask 'but Luke's saber was green again in ROTJ when fighting Vader!'. Luke lost his saber (and his hand) on cloudcity in ESB when vader chopped it off - the hand and anakin's saber felt into the void. Luke must have had a new one made thanks to ghost-Obiwan's help.

personally, all jedis should have a presurre button for the hilt so that when you let go it trns off. And I'm happy vader got rid of the last bit of hair on his face, since hes not eally supposed to have any hair. and the new emperor pic is creepy

You cannot change the colour of a lightsaber, period. The type of crystal used to build it is what determines its shade.

Although I can understand why some people hate changes, seeing as it's about the same people who've seen the original StarWars (Trilogy) as unedited and raw as they came starting in '77 - but the changes aren't that bad to call these version ''soulless remakes''.

StarWars is still known everywhere and luved atst, regardless of the changes and little changes as bettyer quality, enhanced scenes and such definately don't make them ''soulless''. It's not like Leia turned out to save Anakin and Han became Luke or something.

Thats a slightly naive viewpoint. I think its far more likely that he makes these changes time and time again because it forces fans to buy new editions of his movies at regular intervals. This is why I dont think he'll ever really stop making -new-new-new-new-new editions, and the movies will become more and more messed up, and further away from the classics they originally were.
If he wanted to remake the movies, then fine. I'd even be excited about it on some level... but what he has done and continues to do is like taking the mona lisa and repainting parts of it because 'it was supposed to look like this'.

Well you don't have to worry about that. If future generations start watching from episode 1, they won't watch episodes 2-6.
nanoo i think most people first watch starwars when they are young, so most people will love episode 1 first time they watch it, remember its only ****e to the guys who grew up watching the OT who now realise puppets are for kids

hey im for wanting to see everysecond of the new films added, now im short on money, so i am SELLING the first versions thta came out for $10 USA Dollars. they are the unedited ,pure stuff, they are in VHS (no dvds on those times LOL) and episode 5 got once cyteed ont he tape (so much use ) but its fixed (dont ask how i did it.)
they are in english with spanish subtitles. so if you ant to see the real pure stuff get this not the new stuff.
PS: spanish subtiles help u learn spanish or vsaversa learn english

This Vong thing is getting confusing. IN one book, the Force is all, there is no Dark not Lightside, merely the Force. That V woman says that and eventually Jacen starts to believe that. Than later on, in another book, she takes that back and explains that there are 2 sides to the Force....
The Force is suppose to be connect with every living creature in the universe, yet there are a few who aren´t connect ? Merely cuase they weren't in our Galaxy where our stories take place in ?
Ok - so a new Race starts to come and they get dubbed the Yuuzhan Vong, invisible to the Force and immune......Enter Anakin Solo, who throws this all away and just fries them to dead....while finding death for himself aswell.
So they are affected by the Force, all of a sudden. Then why didn't even the almighty Jedi Council know if this type of ''Force'', cuz the books explains it to be on a whole new level. The Jedi have existed for thousands of years, Yoda was the most skilled in the Force (or was at least the most of the Force in sumthing). Luke was the most gifted and had a destiny to fullfill. And now they come with a whole new type of Force. I will admit that I have not read 'The Unifying Force' but I was too fed up with it to keep track.
This isn't even talking about the repitiveness of the V-woman, who keeps telling stories which later on get taken back by other writers. WTF ?!
People, very important people who die meaninglessly. Chewie dies to save Ani and later on Ani dies anyway. I can't stand such things, at least die for a person who will do somethig great and not just open a key for someone and dies doing it (refering to showing Jacen the Unifying Force).
If someone wanna redo Post ROTJ - you're welcome as from all my heart. Nullify Vong - thank god. Hopefully Post-NJO will be better or at least redeem EU, eventhough my respeect for that wasn't that high anyway.

I don't read or keep track of EU books coming out. I've read a bit and own simply a small few of the NJO books. This all is information taken from own experience or reviews. Reading isn't my area, but it can be fun from time to time.

The Force only exists in the Star Wars Galaxy. According to Lucas, Star Wars happened 'a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away' from our own (In real life). Meaning, if the Force was all over the universe we would have Jedi/Sith on Earth. The Vong story **** on Lucas' idea of the Force only existing in the Star Wars galaxy and basically made them uber as hell.
Also the spoilers I agree with you - you save some1 and die only for that some1 to die later. That book is so retarded - I never read it nor do I read any books but I know enough about EU to bash retarded SW stories.
Mara Jade is hot though (jeezus). And Mike Myers in Wayne's World couldn't have said it any better: "She _will_ be mine [Mapex's]."

As has been said we have a large number of young'ns browsing this board at any given time. We all have an image and reputation to uphold. Don't want parents stumbling across this behavior do we?
in rogue planet pre clone wars, the begining of the vong is investigated....
Basically the vong are kinda jedi desendants things. the were so full of force potential the allowed the planet they lived on to become alive. They turned nasty and then the planet took away all remnants of the force from them.
Hence they a not present i the force.

But they're very heritage is one that agrees with lucas's idea of the force.....they play an intergral part investigating the force itself and shouldn't be nullified. I think they are really badass also, and kinda scary. When u go into the back ground/ homeworld stories this is well boring but when they fight jedi this is well cool.
Also the spoilers I agree with you - you save some1 and die only for that some1 to die later. That book is so retarded - I never read it nor do I read any books but I know enough about EU to bash retarded SW stories.

i reckon with the size of the EU reading community they really dont need and shock factors to make ppl buy the books.
Having read the book i believe the reason the story line was put in was to create an excellent plot. Its a sembalance of the utter ruthlessness of the vong and the apparant hopelessness of the fight against them, it brings readers to question their beliefs that their percieved hero's are only human and not invincible, by striking a doulbe blow from saving him and then dying later it proves that the story cant end in happy finish, and that maybe there will be no happy ending........ that is a good plot!
in the classic books/films luke was faced with massive odds and all he had was hope....like any classic hero needs for a good tale.
The later books, jedi academy etc etc saw the rise of the jedi and really there was nothing to fear....all the eu books became kinda predictable as really what was the worst that could go wrong.....a jedi goes dark..... some1 gets kidnapped......
Not only now do the writers start a series again with overwhelming odds against the goodies, but they drag out the suspense, with many books of vong victories, they keep hammering the good guys down only for the ultimate build back up......
Its classic writing not some cheap plot by the lucas franchise cos maybe they think they are losing money???!!!! (ya right) and need to get more readers to buy the books.

Im not sure whether he said hes read them or not, if you know the story its fair enough to judge anyway, even if the tale might be written well it could still be a ****e plotline.

I have to make up the min characters somehow.
It's not a trailer really, more of a documentary on the Anakin to Vader transition, the fight vs Obi Wan, the making of the suit... the best part is seeing their fecing practice... to se Hayden say "auch" after he gets hit in the fingers :P
i don't understand why people hate the vong and NJO series so much, i didn't think they were anything special, but i didn't hate them.
i dont think people really hate them, they just gotta moan bout something!
The ep3 teaser is great and it gives enough away for u to believe the final vader/an1kin vs ob1 fight will be awesome.

Too old. Much too old to begin the training. Actually, I don't think it's any of our responsibility to keep out minors. If they go to it or talk about it, that's their decision, but if they're on here playing a Star Wars game.. online, where freaks roam aplenty, I think they can handle that.

If somebody says something stupid, and a kid doesnt understand it correctly, he/she may ask his parents "mummy why should i shove that mans $$$ up my &&&?" to which the mommy replies, get me the phone and calls 999 (911 cops/whatever) the MB team are initially shut down and all brought in for questioning and then the server logs are checked and all registered ip will be investigated and that means ur ass too pilot.
It would all be a lot easier if ppl remembered that 90% of the peeps here are under 18 (from the MB member list), and to just use common sense!
If I really wanted, I could pull crazy ideas out of my ass like that too. MB isn't going to get shut down because one person discussed something that some people aren't supposed to see. I never said it was ok to post pictures or stuff, but talking about it is fine, especially since he didn't really say anything incredibly inappropriate. I don't talk about those things, but I don't think you need to attempt to keep him inline when he's done nothing seriously wrong.

Now I thought that the Vong were just a contrived race, I thought I saw that in an interwiew with an EU author. Basically the Jedi won at the end of RotJ so they needed to make something up that could conveniently just ignore Jedi powers. Enter the Vong.
Nah they weren't my favorite either. For all of the other threats that could have hit during the NJO the Vong seemed like an easy way out.
